Hi everyone
I am thinking about going away for the weekend to another city and would love any recommendations. I have narrowed it down to Lijiang, Dalian, Guangzhou or Hangzhou but welcome any other suggestions and I am keen in seeing temples, old architecture if possible and taste good food.
A city where two days is enough for a taster and if I like it then I can always go back it would be great for any advice thanks.
Zhanjiang, Guangdong

Shanghai is great for tasting food.Have temple and old town as well as international stuffs.
Shanghai is the mixture for everything in China.
Well in your list I've only been to Dalian - I wouldn't go there this time of year. It's more of a summer city but the beaches are grossly overcrowded.
If you decide on Guangzhou then I'd suggest Luirong & Guangxiao temples then head to Liwan park (Zhongshan Ba Lu metro station). Nice old area with good Cantonese food. Walk straight south through there & after an hour you'll get to Shamian island, the old colonial area. That's one day!

Baiyuan mountain
Guangzhou is a fabulous place.... for a day or 2, Zhanjiang is better for a lifetime.
LOL!!!
From the list you provided I would suggest Hangzhou. It's a nice place with a temple or two. Cycling the lake is worth doing, especially as the weather should be nice at this time of year. Also getting out into the hills and the tea plantations is jolly nice.
Lijiang would be nice if it wasn't, rammed full of noisy, unpleasant, Chinese tourists. But it is.... Maybe to escape them you would have to go during the week.
Guangzhou is just a city and iv'e never been to Dalian.

I live in Guangzhou & travel to Hangzhou regularly for work. Guangzhou is by far a nice city. Also plenty to do, especially as a weekend tourist.
