I don't know which Uni or College, but I do know the law, You are allowed to get a work visa up until you're 60 years old and any school or company can hire you, if they say no, then thats just the school being an a**.  The good news is IF you get a new working visa at 60, you can renew it 5 more times in Chengdu because they don't check the FEC book for age anymore, they just stamp it when you resign for another year. My Friend did this.. He's 63 now with a working permit.. After that if you wish to stay in China longer you might have a chance with the new Green Card system, at 60 years old they have something there about getting a green card, then you can work until you are ready to retire.

BTW, you are my role model in China Sir, I'm 33 and hope to make it till I'm 60 here in China too.

Good luck, let us know the results..

some provinces enforce the 60 year rule and some do not, shandong will let you slide to 65 provided your still in good health, i have a friend 70 still teaching here but had to have letter from the president of the university to continue working, we just hired a 60 year old toefl teacher, american working in guangzhou that could not get a visa anymore and moved to shandong.

good luck, the further north and colder it is, the harder it is to get teachers, filipinos still get visas in harbin because no one wants to teach and freeze to death there.
unless your married on a spouse visa and work for unreported cash, as you get older in china, you will have to take less salary and let the bones get colder in the north, living in the south will take a flexible attitude about regulations.

Wow this is really making me think twice about going for a Skiing trip to Harbin... It must be like Antarctica up there.

Wasn't renewed after 2 years at a Shanxi University after I turned 60. Went home and obtained a work visa for a University in Shaanxi when I was already 61.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
