Q: Which job I should take?

I got two nice paid job offer in one week.
Company A is located near to West Nanjing road which I can walk to from my house. It is a new registered trading company and they are new in fabric business. The boss seem like around 28 years old, quite young second rich guy.He rent his office in the most expensive area of Shanghai and invested 100,000rmb on doing business on alibaba at once.He is going to sell demi fabric from the factory of his friend. They hired me as the International sales executive with nice paid. But The company askes me to pay half of my insurances which the other half part will be paid by the company.I signed the working contract with them before I got a new offer from company B.My contract saied I will start working with them on April 17th.
Company B is located near XuJiahui, they have been on traveling bag business for three years and doing very well. The boss told me they got too much order to produce the bag,and they have to abandon some. They hire me as an international sales with the same paid as company A gives to me.Most of my insurances will be paid by the company and myself only need to pay a few hundred. It is a new representative office in Shanghai and the boss appreciates me obviously.During my probation I do not need to do sales, only follow up the orders. After probation I can follow the company's new clients from the beginning till to the end and make a sales and get some commisions and develop my new clients myself as well. They attend Guangzhou carton fair. They told me to go to work on April 22 or 23 and sign the contract that day as well.

Which company should I take?Any wise advices?Or I start working with company A for five days and find excuse to quit then go to company B on April 22?
Or I start working with company A at first to consider more before I make real choices?

They both sound OK. If there are no major differences in working conditions, consider both jobs' pay structures and choose the one that guarantees you the most pay. I'm sure you know the perils of "probation periods" and "commissions".

Oh, and...

"The boss seem like around 28 years old, quite young second rich guy.He rent his office in the most expensive area of Shanghai and invested 100,000rmb on doing business on alibaba at once"

DON'T HAVE SEX WITH HIM, VICKY.

It is career suicide. I know that nothing I say can forestall the inevitable, but at least hold out until you have a clear goal in mind and can use your body as leverage.

MissA:

+1

Only thing to add is that company B seems more established. I think working for a brand new company with a 'young, rich' Shanghai guy is a higher-risk proposition.

Thank you Miss A.And Sam,stop thinking of connecting me with the young guy.I am telling his age just for knowing if it is good to work for a young boss since he might lack of experiences for his age.I am worrying if he can lead the team and the business.Anyway I am just the employee even I will be an executive. But every desicion has to be signed by boss.

What MissA said is very sensible advice.

I'm assuming the boss of company A told you all those facts about himself. Consider that most startup companies fail, and that when choosing a job, you have to consider more than promises and claims.

Today is my first day to work for the second rich guy.I got know he was working in England before as a sales and return back to China now to open the company. He knows a little about the denim he is going to sell but not so much.So basically it is hard for me to learn this product without a professional person to teach me in the office. The only profesional one I can consult is the enginner in the factory I guess, but the factory is not in Shanghai.I can only learn it from him by caling him, which made the job hard.My young boss brought me nice lunch,I felt guilty to take it by free because I might quit several days latter.Help, guys? What should I do?

Actually Victoria, in mentioning risk I was not making any connection with your eventful love life - a company run by a young person with more money than experience is not what I'd consider a low-risk proposition in ANY country or situation, but especially not in Shanghai.

Guys, please! Why would she have sex with him? He's Chinese (not foreign), and rich, so unlikely to hang out at a hostel or BK! He's totally not her type.

Ummm - you signed a contract - does that mean nothing to you?

I'd go for B. You are a young person, B sounds like a more established company that will allow you to grow more as a professional, than at A.

Victoria1987:

Tks.But i felt sorry to signed the contract with A and not go to work. How about i govto work for A for five days and quit when the time for working with B comes?

If you want to protect yourself.

Stay in the contract work for a few days and decide. B sounds more established but A sounds more fresh and that could be good.

If A sucks, drop it and go with B. Just make sure you can't get in any trouble... because some contracts stipulate that you can NOT work in a company that MAY be a competitor and they seem like two clothing/accessory companies.

So if you work there for a week and then quit and they find out you are in a company that MAY be a competitor, I think they can take legal action.

So watch out for that.

if you begin to work for one company and then quit within a few days to work for the second, this will make you seem like an unreliable person to any half-way decent employer.

You have to decide for yourself which will give you the best prospects for your future.

You are by your own admission 27 years old. At this age you should be able to make your own career decisions good and bad. this is how you get life experience and learn to take responsibility for your own life.

Which area are you most interested in? Only you know that.

Victoria, you seem like a nice person, but take responsibility for your own life !!!

You do not understand about Shanghai. It is a crazy big city.I would go for company B because it is more established and the boss appreciates me very well and Shanghai is the new representative office.Which is not so bad for me.But this company told me to cometo work on 22th,April.Anything bad could happen during this time, what if I did not take company A's job offer(it is also nice salary),and company B will finally change their mind for hiring me because I only signed the contract with A,not B.It is too risky for me to refuse A at the moment. If I do not work for A as we have the contract, what if I pissed them off in this way and put my resume on internet and no other company in China will hire me.I have to be very careful and go deal things in a legal way.If I start working with A and quit a few days later during the probation,it does not mean I break the probation contract.Any law can help me.

'Law' advice:

You were reading our posts about 'how to quit School, which doesn't respect the Contract', and you made up a story posted as your Q.

This is foreigners Board, and our Contracts differ very much from Contracts between Chinese. We all know, Chinese don't view Contracts same as Western World does! In our World, signed Contract has two sides: A (employer) and B (employee). If one side doesn't respect obligations written in the Contract, another side is free to 'walk away' of the Contract! In China, mostly A doesn't respect Contract, what simplify (law) advice to B.

We are bound to China with visas, and you were born here!

We can exit China anytime and go elsewhere, you must unfortunately stay in China.

If Chinese employer has such a vast pool of people to fill mentioned position, why do you think your employer will open laptop, and write review about 'Vicky, who didn't respect signed Contract ..', if there's around 70 million Vickies available to fill the same position tomorrow?

P.S.

I want points for my post, that's why I'm not 'commenting', but I wrote my message in the new post!

Victoria,

so you say your first day was tough and you want to quit already?

do you really expect work to be easy ??

welcome to the world of work

you should stick it out, who can say the other job will be any different?

Robk:

You know what is interesting?

When I lived back home in Canada, I always heard stories about how hard the Chinese work and how I should be thankful...

Then I came here and I see a bunch of whiny babies sleeping at their desks, playing games or watching movies... or just wandering around watching others work then swapping places.

Sure, they work longer hours with less time off but they do not work "HARDER" by any means. And the same basically goes for the students... lots of homework, longer studies but the learning system is not effective and they forget all they have learned since it is just exam preparation.

I have been lied to... most of the Chinese workers I have seen are lazy bums.

Sorrel,You have to read my post carefully if you really want to answer the post.I talked about the hard day does not mean I am a lazy worker or my working skill is bad.

What I refered is:

1:I came to work here mainly because I signed the contract earlier and I do not want to get into any trouble for it.Also I felt sorry to not come after signed the contract.

2:I told it is hard because it is a new registered company and my young boss does not have much professional knowledge on the denim(the product),let alone me.It will be risky to start on this business.

3:I have another more established company offers me job.It is reasonable to consider leaving.

4:I felt guilty to eat boss's free lunch when I am considering about the leaving because I am the person felt for people.Actually yesterday I worked very hard because I wanted to help him before I leave if I really quit. My advice for you:Do not judge people and answer it so quickly. It does not make you look smart.

Again I would appreciate anyone who can give me some advices : How can I quit my job?Text to my boss without showing up in the office or go back to office to quit the job?I felt embarrassing to quit job for another job when my boss treats me well. What will be an reasonable excuse for quit my job?I am thinking of leaving without asking one week salary because I felt sorry as well.If he gives to me,I will take it.If not,I will just not ask for it.

Victoria,

i suppose i should be happy you actually took time to read and digest my post.

your comment sounded like a complaint about the work being hard and you trying to use this as an excuse to leave:

"So basically it is hard for me to learn this product without a professional person to teach me in the office. The only profesional one I can consult is the enginner in the factory I guess, but the factory is not in Shanghai.I can only learn it from him by caling him, which made the job hard"

As i said in my previous post, you are an adult with all information about the two companies. If you had really wanted the second job, not the current one, you should not have begun the work and put yourself in the difficult position you are in now.

to address your points:

1) if you do not want to get into trouble, give this job a chance.

2) you say the job is risky: yes, life is risky. most fun and challenges are derived from taking risks. That is how you get experience.

3) to leave after one day is only reasonable if the boss behaves in an inappropriate manner or something equally bad happened to you at work.

4) you are judging me now

Every new job is difficult at the start because it is i a new job, so perseverance is necessary for you to make it your own.

It sounds like you have been well treated where you are now. You should give it a chance. Maybe it will be the job you have always wanted.

what sort of message are you telling people about yourself if you leave without working at something and giving it a chance?

would you behave the same in a relationship??

One I need to ask you sorrel.Do you have any sucessful career development experiences?Because you know it will be more reliable to get advices from people who has the experiences because you seem very young. It is like investing your money on some business without predicating the risk. For sure it will have the good results for some new business when you gave a try.But not all new business can survive,my sister's is broke. Remember you need real case to convince people. PS:Good night.I just woke up for drinking some water, continue sleeping.Good night, dream well.Bella princess

Yes, i am enjoying a successful and happy life and career.

I hope you will have the same.

My comments were based on how necessary it is for people to take responsibility for their own lives and careers, and learn from experience.

I don't run away when things get tough, I face challenges and try to overcome them.

Yes, things can be difficult, but I know it is important to overcome the difficulties.
