I have done my banking needs at Bank of China, Guangxi Branch since 2004.  I am very pleased withy their services offered in general, but we have butted heads a couple of times.
On the plus side, they have a Floor Service Manager who is really fluent in English, so the Ex-Pats banking there just walk in and go straight to her, and she will accompany you doing all the required translations, and she will also offer you good advise.  And she is very good looking, and kind.  Besides her, two or three tellers also understand some English, so I have no communication problem there.
On the negative side, I had two experiences that to me were not up to par.  One, I rented a safe deposit box and prepaid it for 5 years to get the best rate available.  After a few months, I wanted to upgrade to a larger one, and they wanted 200Rmb for cancelling the contract.  To me it was not a cancellation, I was just changing a small box for a medium one, but they still wanted the penalty.  So, I removed the contents and bought me a home safe, had it bolted to floor and wall, and end of problem.  The second one is that for receiving wire transfrers from USA,  it takes them from 10 to 14 working days to process the paper work.

Other than those two, is has been very good service so far.

I would agree with HappyExPat here.  I have maintained an account with the Bank of China for a long time here, and as he noted, in my branch too, there are many members of the staff who can speak English.  Foreign exchange is really easily done.  Remittances abroad, however, must be handled at the Regional Head Office, which thank God, is also located in this city.  Complaints to the Bank of China hotline at 99xxx are answered very quickly and promptly.  My local branch is open 7 days a week from 8h00 until 17h00.

we started with BOC but have since changed to Construction Bank of China
we get a better exchange rate most of the time and the network dosn't go down as often (nth east China)
however the withdrawal is a lower limit from the ATM

owenren:

I think you can change your limit in the bank, you tell them you like get more money in a day...  for us, when we apply the card, we can select the value of per day....  you can do the same, hope this is helpful for you...

'SPD Bank' and 'China Everbright Bank', because of low or no fees when using Bank account to transfer or withdraw funds anywhere in China.

Definitely NOT China Construction Bank! :( Based on my experience, one of their male staff was particularly helpful. (Shanghai) One female employee was a stupid, arrogant and nosey BITCH. :( (DaQing) Regarding two dumb**** security guards..one was a STUPID,nosey and arrogant douchebag at a YongKang branch. Another was a RACIST and nosey asshole!!!! :( (Shanghai branch that I already mentioned.)

I use Bank of China in Zhanjiang and in Guangzhou  ...no real complaints except the charges transferring between the two   ...  little English in Guangzhou ...  no English in Zhanjiang but they sure do like to please, do their best......  quite a fiasco when I went with a new passport and tried to expalian that (old one expired) ....  and they use way too much paper .....  and their connection speeds are slow down here....  when converting money the connection isn't fast enough to keep up with the changing rates, I think is the issue....  oh well, they treat me very well.

Never had any problems with China Construction Bank, at least no issues that aren't present at all of the other banks (long wait times, no english, and ATM fees for cash withdrawals from outside your "home" city...).  I avoid the first two problems by taking along a Chinese friend with guanxi at our local branch, and the third by loading up on cash before any long distance travel

The Bank of China's my favourite, no doubt about it; the girl behind the counter there is hot. Wouldn't mind spending my wad on her. "Is that a roll of coins in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?"
