Q: who is better at this...Obama or xi?

first recorded use of the phrase "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick," which was later to become a trademark description of Theodore Roosevelt's foreign policy

I doubt that She Man's stick is really that big.

Lord_hanson:

I'm up voting this because it's in context. China exaggerates it's military strength on a regular basis. Kaiwen's other meaning is probably true too.

I will go with silverbutton on this.. Putin.

I think in terms of leadership abilities and awareness of the political climate, I would put Xi, Obama and Putin on the same level. They are all good leaders.

But Obama is handicapped by the GOP. He is rendered powerless by the neocon warhawks..

This is why I feel it is important that the USA votes for Bernie Saunders next year. He is a match for all of them.  Almost equal to Obama in intellect, firmer in resolve. Unswaying with his manifesto.

Yup, put Bern, Xi and Putin in a room.  Put a few extra seats in for Justin Trudeu, Jeremy Corbin, Elizebeth Warren and Angela Merkel.  Another seat for Malala Yousaf.

I reckon they could solve more problems than they cause.

Justin Trudeu is the one to watch. If his deficit idea works, he will destroy the fear-mongering of rampant capatalizm.

Canada might just be the country that brings in the new economic age.

I hope it works for Justin. I hope he shows  the world can be different. Without there having to be losers. Brighter and better for everyone.

ambivalentmace:

a true believer that elites are smarter and know what is best for the average working man who is too ignorant to understand the complexities of the modern world, keep the faith, oh to be young and idealistic again, where did i go wrong. controlling the actions and responses of homo sapiens to outside stimuli is no problem, we just need the right person, at the right time, with the right answer, maybe i have heard this before, nah, just dreaming again. scots allen, no malice toward your faith, but most americans dont believe that government is good for anything, so the less of it, the better. im not sure where people in socialist countries of europe get the idea that government is good, efficient and the answer to people's problems. i wish i knew where the disconnect between europe and america occurred on this topic. i myself know beyond a doubt that the american government has only run 2 programs efficiently within budget, with transparency in my life, NASA and the TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY, everything else has usually cost 2 to 10 times the projections and did not work. the war on poverty for 50 years still has the poverty rate at 15 to 17 percent after all the money was spent. the problem with government is they dont have to answer for the results, they blame someone else or just say we didnt spend enough to make it work, most people accept this, but if you look over several generations, it's always the same answer, but people usually are self absorbed with their lifetime only and never notice the trend. if i am the recipient of a miracle, i would probably believe in a god, if i saw an efficient government that worked, i would probably believe in that as well, sadly, im not holding my breathe.

Ambivalent, I think your biggest problem over there (well, one of the biggest problems) that relates directly to your comment, is HOW elections are run.

There is a VERY clear idea that there are only Democrats and Republicans... and that's it!

In other nations, we have a multitude of parties, all of which can, and do, exert influence.

Also, there seems to be a LOT less corruption in our political systems - I'm not talking 'official' corruption, but the extremely clear link between policy/votes, and money/success. "You vote this way, you get X dollars in 'campaign funds'.

Putting it simply - money uses a vastly different language in the US of A than it does in most other countries.

Put that down to self-regulation. Perhaps those other governments actually decided to put the interests of the people before their own pockets, or self-interests.
