I'm sure most of you read the sad story about the 11 year old kid that illegally broke open an Ofo bike lock and road the bike towards a bus, so he was actually riding in the wrong direction
And the parents wanna sue Ofo for 8 million RMB after they finish with the bus company.
I'm actually and truly not sure if China has a law that holds parents responsible in a case like this. In American law the parents would have been held liable & responsible for the accident because the child was a minor and under 18 years of age, no, the bus and Ofo should not be fined nor held responsible for this tragedy.
I feel sad for this kid but the parents should be held responsible for this, mostly, I'd have to see the video of the driver to add something against him.
What's your home country law and thoughts on this case?
Definitely not the responsibility of Ofo!
Could the bus driver have avoided running the stupid kid over? My understanding is that they normally blame the bigger vehicle in an accident...
But - 12-year old kid should have been taught better. I'm not sure if the parents should be responsible or the whole of Chinese society. They ALL ride on the wrong side of the road so the kid has learnt from society...
Stiggs:
I read somewhere else that the bus driver was being held partially responsible because he didn't confirm it was safe before making the turn. I suppose it means he should have looked around the corner to check for traffic coming the wrong way.
If the police are just applying the law I don't really blame them for that, that's what they're supposed to do but in reality it probably wasn't that simple or practical for the driver. It sucks for him.
Ofo should make it a condition that parents get sterilized before getting that sweet money. Such inconsiderate people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.
I can't comment on this particular accident but bus drivers are bullies when it comes to all the bikes and motos. They drive fast and up close to them in order to threaten them they don't care if it' a kid or a mother with a baby. I've wanted to punch outthe driver on mny occasions. but defitely nothing to do with Ofo.
This ridiculousness is up there with the idiots who watch their family members disregard all the warning signs, avoid the security guys then climb over the zoo fence to avoid buying a ticket - then squeal about how it's the zoo's fault because they didn't do enough to stop them going over the fence and being eaten by tigers.
I just can't understand how this would even get to court. Ofo didn't give the kid the bike, he broke the lock off and stole it. To me the fact that it's even being heard in court insinuates something about the 'so what' attitude towards stealing.
Parents and the society without morals is to blame... bus driver may be a little to blame... but mainly it is the parents... and the wouldn't win a dime in developed countries that actually hold parents accountable for *gasp* parenting...
But in China, they always pass the buck and their kids.
"Here grandma, take my kid... here teacher, take my kid... here laowai, take my kid... someone take my kid cause I only had them out of marriage contract!"
RandomGuy:
But but but, we Chinese love our kids far more than you Foreigners. Said the mom who spends all of her non-working time shopping and spending money away from her kids after tossing them to the grandparents. Something Chinese don't understand, if you don't feel ready to have kids, better wait until you feel ready for it than to have them and treat them like an unwanted necessity.
frankly, none.
this incident is just a tragic accidnt. there is no black n white. all happend to b at a wrong place wrong time.
sad loss of a young life wl mayb leave some lessons for othrs.
