Q: Why are cinema ticket prices so ridiculously high in China?

Seriously, who on earth is going to spend 150+ RMB going to the cinema? It's unreal.

Anyone think they'll eventually lower prices across the board?

The 150+ rmb price is usually reserved for the uninitiated....

Most cinemas will have some kind of VIP card (for free or a nominal fee), or some deal with a credit card company that will let you purchase tickets at half price.

Usually the local Chinese buy the movie tickets in 'tuan gou', ie 'group purchase'.......please ask your colleagues about this and they will tell you more.   Usually if a movie ticket has a face value of 60, you can get yours 'group purchase' ticket at less than half the price......so it becomes much more interesting then for the movie fan.

You can consider to buy 10 or 20 tickets at one go, they are usually good for one year.

If you don't go to movies often, use a Groupon-like website such as meituan.com or lashou.com.  Tickets are half off or cheaper there.  Other option is become a VIP member at the theater if you are a frequent visitor.

You guys should try to purchase the tickets on the internet instead of buying directly in the cinemas, is always cheaper. Try this website: www.247cinema.cn is the only one that provides an English service and accept foreign cards.
