Q: Why are there so many jobs in China now 8/4/2013 ? No, not because of ending contracts.

I have a prediction I'd like to make, it's just a theory and a debate that formulates in my mind. So feel free to give an agreement or a disagreement of any kind, but try to back up your theory ok logical realistic sources? No rookie guessers to make yourself feel better, ok?

Announced on July 1st were new immigration policies for entering and staying in China, visa stuff and more.

Now these new policies will start on September 1st. So lets draw a time line to the year 2014, Month of February, this is the big turn over month for foreigners who wish to renew their F, X, L visa's. ( renewing working resident permits don't count in this topic.)

So will this be the turning point for all the so called illegal F visa workers that are set to become "M Visa's"?

Will "M Visa's" be easy to get in Hong Kong like  it's soon to be Ex: the F Visa?

Visa agents in China will be deemed as illegal, at least in Shenzhen.

Will workers keep forking out the big bucks to stay in China for only 3 month M visa's? Will you be allowed multiple "M visa's" in the future.

Or will everything be just like it is now and all we're talking about are visa name changes to make it look nice and pretty?

Sh*t loads of jobs are already popping up down here and every where. I study and check all sites when it comes to jobs, to me schools and companies look scared and cautious or is it the workers who are scared?

Why are there so many jobs, most can't offer the Z visa. Will workers buy the big ticket home for their FBI or police record and wait 3 months for a working visa?

Let the debate begin.

I think it's because people just decided to leave...there is always new people coming here trying to hit that gold mine. Hey, it's worked out for several people, that's why people think it will work out for them so they give it a try and the cycle repeats...

ironman510:

The only worry I have is the about timing, schools and companies need these guys now, not 3 months later and 60% of these places are not allowed to hire us anyway. So if the timing and the needs of the company don't match and workout because companies can't get a firm commitment from us or don't have the time, then both sides lose and the foreigner is best to keep working in his or her own country or go to Korea with a better hiring system, after Korea pulled a stunt like China's doing, not as strict as Korea but similar, Korea was filled with jobs, even now Korea is packed with Jobs.

There are far more people leaving then there are new arrivals. There is no money to be made in China any more.

The new visa laws basically put expats into indentured servitude, or perhaps even voluntary, legalised slavery.

ironman510:

I still make $4000 a month. Full time plus a little part time, much better then I could have done back in the U.S, Uncle Sam would have killed me. So money can be made still.

Traveler:

$4000 for a full time job and overtime combined is not really a good wage for an international professional. Qualified TESOL professionals get much more than that working part time in Australia. If China wants to attract international professionals, it will need to become competitive on the international stage.

You must need a BMW Traveler to be seen in public, but I don't need that. $4000 is perfect, couldn't ask God for more.

The mass exodus speaks for itself: most westerners who work in China are criminals/pedophiles and are now unable to find a job in China because they need to give a criminal record..

ironman510:

Good point, but I thought Criminals use F visa's because they don't require background checks?

Just checked out the jobs out on this site, there's over 12 page's of 8/5/2013 new job offers in China. Haven't seen this in China for at least 2 years, I bought a house in Huizhou, guess I can move back with a big job market out there, not big but enough.

A lot of people have left.  A lot of people left a good while ago.

Fewer people are coming.  A lot fewer.  I know because my last school is having difficulty persuading Americans to come here as we speak.  The only one I know who was really interested was refused because he is a Chinese-Filipino with US citizenship, and they refused him because he is Asian.

The newly appointed US Principal was reluctant to go there because he has a business.  He told me he was having difficulty persuading people they could have 5,000USD in their back pockets after the year.  I don't know about exchange rates precisely, but, I know that $5,000 USD is piss-poor.

On top of this, on this website, there are Government-sponsored positions offering a crappy 7-9000CNY and the teachers do not get extra as a living allowance if they have their own home already like I have.

Who the hell would come and do all this shot for such a piss-poor salary?  They are pleading with me, pretty much.

As others have said, there are so many jobs out there now, but how many are legal?

The demand is too great, and the legalities are too restrictive.

I think a lot of schools, parents and children are going to be disappointed and/or angry come September, and this is in Shenzhen - the best city in China.  Who the fk is going to accept worse in some sht-hole in the Chinese desert?

I am a little angry about it all, yes, because it is clear this country has its mis-led/directed ego so far up its arse that it will choke.

Also, as for making 4000USD, I know not all that is legal, but, fair play.  Thing is, unless you are married to a Chinese National and can stay here for eternity anyway, those sort of opportunities are much fewer than before.

I, and others have stated before, who wants to come here now?

My girlfriend doesn't understand how difficult it is being a foreigner here now.  It's almost impossible to work legally.  WHen you can, it's for less than my piss is worth.  Being married technically makes little difference, although, I believe this is changing.

You can't contact people back home because Facebook is banned.  You can't watch anything remotely entertaining because Youtube is also banned.  How many times can one read the BBC and Dailymail etc?  How many times can one play pool before getting bored?  Going out is an expensive option.  Yet, if you do go to the cinema, the film is edited so much that you can't be fcked as you know the original will be better.  You can't get enough people together to go and find a football pitch to play on.

Really, all this crap for 7-9k per month and their accommodation which limits you to what else you can do?  I think you have a replacement for the spaceshuttle via those whom are responsibles arses!

@Carlgodwin I am married to a Chinese here, our hope is that the new 5 years of marriage gets you a green card, we bought a house in Huizhou, so we have all the requirements maybe by next year and 7 years straight of legal working permits. Don't let China and it's system get you down, turn it off in your mind, use VPNs to go on facebook and youtube. The more focused mind can see past all this. If your goal is to have a secure job and save money you can do that here. But you must let go of your dislikes and see past all this. Your goals mean more. I admit I can't just walk back into the U.S with my BS Degree in computer science from my outdated year of 2000 and expect to land a job, no I would be working part time as a life guard or in Walmart. There are no jobs back home for me, well maybe trucking. But who wants that? No me, so after i replay this day dream in my head I learn that China is a great place to live and work.

Just an educated guess, but I am not a rookie, been here for 3 years and have some understanding of the times we are living in.   I think less are coming and in the future less and less will come.    Eventually, China and other countries like Russia will slowly shut the doors.  Until one day, it will be nearly impossible to come here.   If anybody wants to know why  I believe this, can tell them in private conversation.   Many foreigners dont want to come here no more because they dont want to work illegally, the system is not fair, and like the gentlemen commented above they are not willing to pay enough to attract quality professionals.   Another reason is because of the new visa laws, like requiring us to to give up our fingerprints?     Plus who wants to pay for 3 flights just to try to get a Z visa, work and resident permit, when the schools or government are willing to front any of those costs.   Finally, more and more are not going to be willing to come here for just three months and in many cases go to HK, Mongolia, other border countries, or their home countries to continue to renew this.    My advice to foreigners who wish to stay here or who go back abroad, try your best to create your own business if you can.    Any other suggestions, I am willing to listen.

here is the point:

many of these "schools" just wanna rip off the parents and the kids so they are not legally and would take teacher without any educational background in their studies.

someone complained that the salary is low... the salary is low for teacher who are no real teachers and to be honest? its fair enough. Real teachers earn over 20k if they teach SAT, IELTS, math physics whatever. 20k is not a bad deal for working like 20 classes a week, at home you wont get this much i bet.

Yeah sure if you have no education, a bachelor in a useless field from a carppy uni than you will get paid 10k-12k but back home you might not even find a job

Most of these foreigners cant find a job back home or just wanna travel. Only a few really wants to save money here.

There is a variety of types who are here for different reasons:

-criminals

-cant find a job back home

-adventure seekers

-expats send by a company

-follow their love

to be honest teacher was never a job to save money in these countries. Usually you have a 10 month contract, means you even lose 2 month (or 3-4 with bonus payments) salary. Also china is not so cheap anymore.

In the end china is just not for saving money anymore but you can still find your adventure or maybe your love. As company expat you remain rich among the foreigners (i was lucky recently)

CARLGODWIN1983:

Those jobs teaching SATS and IELTS are hard to find unless you are in an international city, and there the competition for the job is a bit fiercer, which is why those schools then try to do things more cheaply, and cut corners financially.

Your own business is a good idea, but I think too many do that now.

might be true i just saw alot sat jobs on these site claiming to pay 20-25k maybe end in 15k as we all know ~ .~

I am not into that teaching business here anyways.

open your own business is a hard task and probably not worth it. If you wanna open up a school / center you need a chinese partner who most likely will screw you over after it runs.

for other business its really hard to make a start and that not only with the money. (you also need at least 500k to make anything run)

dom87: About the reasons for why people are here, teachers or otherwise, the simplest formula for that is "all expats are either running from something or running towards something", perhaps in most cases a combination. Actually most of the people I know here are for an adventure, more or less...plus easier and better working conditions, minus the idiotic bureaucracy in places like UK.

Actually I haven't met many of the "criminal misfits" you mention here; in Thailand, definitely, but not here. Maybe they go to more out-of-the-way areas where employers may be less picky.

Plus even on the low end of the salaries you mention - 10k - unless you're shopping and eating at western restaurants all the time, you should be able to take away the bulk of that every month. Moreso at 15k+. Only thought I have is "every year here is a year I'm not contributing to my pension, or working my way up in a country I can stay in long-term, safely invest, buy property, trust contracts, etc."...hence I want to stay but am looking for a good path forward, so I guess there's going to be another job posted on here soon!

CARLGODWIN1983:

My apartment costs me 3500 per month.  I probably have to spend just over another 500 on bills.  SHopping can be cheap, but not always.  SOmetimes, to stop one from going insane, you have to go out and treat yourself once in a while.  That can cost anything between 70 and 250rmb if you eat in a reasonable Western restaurant/bar.

The last four days, I have stayed in, or at school, and spent about 30mb per day max.  However, last Tuesday, I went to COco Park and had decent proper sausages and mash and two pineapple juices.  Also, a tex-mex dish.  As I shared, it cost me 120rmb.  Not too bad, but a tad pricey, but to be expected.

When I travel to work, it costs me nearly 6rmb each way with a SHenzhen Tong card.

Now, a life like this, I could save a lot of money, but because I don't want to live on-site, 4,000rmb out of my 9,000 is spent compulsorily.

I could save a fair amount of money, but I could also save the same amount of money in the UK quite easily.

As others have said, I don't think there is a chance to save as much money here now.

dom87:

well i met some of those criminals here but thats another story...

are you honest to tell me the working conditions in china are better than in europe? you have to be kidding me... how many foreigners got screwed here by a company, school or just a chinese random?

yes you still can save but at what cost? I can save way more than at home (germany) just because electricity and food is still cheaper (for now).

BTW 10k is not the lower end of the salaries here for foreigners. I know a lot of foreigners who work for 5k. Yet to mention most schools dont buy you an insurance and obviously you have to save for your pension. On top of that they only pay you for 10 month.

In the end i came here for my love... gave up pretty much everything. Came here on a shit paid job (8k) could save around 5k every month. After half a year i took a good job and earn good money and can save alot, do to the reason that i cant build up anything here.

Dont wanna buy a house in shanghai, i m not stupid. dont wanna buy car in china, not tired of life yet.

so i believe money wise, at least as a teacher every other country might be a better deal
