Q: Why aren't you allowed to lay down in some public places?

Those places with security guys I've noticed that you aren't allowed to just lay there. You can sit there, stand up but you just can't lay down. Any reason for this?

If you are lying down you are at risk of getting bird droppings in your mouth

although as this is not based on birds in China, please correlate with the other thread on low number of birds in Guangzhou

i would imagine as crowded as china can be , laying down for to many people at once could be a safety hazard to evacuate an area in an emergency. i would be worried about being stepped on.

In my experience, laying down in public places can be risky. I've done so on three occasions and each time i've woken up minus a wallet.

I remember when I was in Washington, D.C. with some friends. We took a photo in front of the Capitol Building, and I tried to lay down in front of the other people. Immediately I heard screaming, it was the security personnel telling me to stand up- two M16s were being pointed at me. That was pretty scary. Afterwards we learned it was because that's a potential suicide bomber strategy- lay down so you can get your vest or whatever out.

Mostly it's because they want to discourage people from sleeping everywhere.

I found some security guards to be bossy. The police never bothered me. It's funny because I never met one that spoke English, so I pretend to not understand what he is going on about, I don't even tim bo dong them. I just smile and ask him if he wants to eat shit etc. I just dragged it out. I figure if he wants to bother me over nothing, I should try his patience.
