Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: why is BA flights double the price at the moment to China?
Going back out to China end of month looked about a week ago one way flights were about £430 ish now they are coming up at £1000 + and not because its close to the date all in november as well, any ideas why?
I've been trying to figure that out , too. Round trip flights from DC to Shanghai have gone up to $1700 while round trip flights starting in Shanghai and going to DC (then back) are going down . I've researched it so much and I simply cannot find a direct cause for when flights suddenly go up like that (except the obvious holiday times , close to the date , etc)
In general, international flights are the big money makers for airline companies, and they are always overpriced on a $/kilometer scale if compared to domestic flights.
Also in general, there are "seasons" for flying abroad, with some months fewer people flying than other months. For China in particular, from December to February, and near other important holidays, prices skyrocket.
And maybe last, for the purpose of this short explanation, airline companies also do their homework better than us. They follow trends, and if they see an upswing in demand at any paricular time, and it is sustained at a higher level than normal for a few days, they raise prices to receive more money for the same lousy service. Once demand drops becasue mostly higher prices, they bring prices down again to normal levels.
As a rule of thumb, never stick only with one airline, BA or any other. Do use Internet, and there are many providers there, seek the cheapest fares available for your intended flight. Change dates of departure around, may help you get cheaper fares, with maybe wednesday departures being the cheapest (normally plane will fly less full).
And one last comment, even if you seek a one way ticket, do check also prices for round trip. Sometimes one way is more expensive than a round trip.
february february february fly in february! flights are cheapest then
In bound flights cost normally more due to the departing airport taxes.. its much higher than in China. Did you try other airlines?
freind wanted to go BA because of leaving terminal 5 reakons she can only get certain shoping things there and also becauseshecan buy extra lugguage. Seen other indirect flight s for about £400 so probaly do that.
Lufthansa have a flight sale to Europe at the moment and KLM is usally one of more affordable European airlines. You should check them out instead. I've always found that BA is one of the more expensive airlines to fly with.
