Q: why chatting in Chinese is so poisonous ?

why chatting in Chinese is so irrtating ?

frequently people send me "?" or "." or  smilie as a response , I also didn't expect that even top management people use this silly chatting style to respond to your professional messages on your wechat. It's like they are testing how far they can push your buttons or express their carelessness. and you know failing to response to this stupidity can ruin your relationship or work .

A fair question. Possible reasons include,

1. Brought up by sleazy parents to behave like sleazy politicians, not revealing their true thoughts. This is what happens where truths are useless, because the society runs on guanxi, not laws (which in many cases are there, but only gets implemented when CCP says so).

2  Face. Ignorance regardig the subject of conversation, fear of looking stupid / losing, ie no face / war mentality, therefore shut up.

3. Passive aggressiveness. Still want something from you although wants you dead inside. To minimize the chance of angering you or you discovering their inner boiling rage, utter an evasive, meaningless response.

Remember, this people survives on guanxi, finding the correct door, begging (manipulating your conscience), coercing, extortion.....they don't have ethics.  Yes/No often leads to commitment, responsibility, traceability. No response = no responsibility = sitting on the fence = safe.  Most of them mastered this before going to high school.

"frequently people send me "?" or "." or smilie as a response..." Did you ever stop to think that maybe a Chinese person would send you "?" because your Chinese isn't that good? Hmmmmm... that's a tough one really.

earthizen:

This is a common tactic the locals use among themselves --- to duck questions. In this case it isn't about language proficiency.

They always ask me 20 stupid questions about an arrangement we have already made.
Eventually I just stop responding, or send a short response in English such as "We continue August 5th".
At which point they respond with a crying face because they're too lazy/stupid to find a translator.
This is daily.

I never saw anything wrong with emoticons. Sometimes a picture says a thousand words and that's really useful if you're like me and hate typing on a phone.

professional messages on wechat

?

.

indecision

Most people who use wechat for their professional business belong properbly to generation internet and that means, their writing style is far from the professional interpretation of some mid 50 manager who can just open the internet explorer but just found out wechat is the next great thing.

jokes aside...

nothing to do with we chat, but did you see their "professional emails"? Normally you would think a 5 year old has a better understanding of writing something professional

The air is poisonous, the water is poisonous, the soil is poisonous, why should conversations break the trend?
Also, bear in mind the writing system (which is not an alphabet) is approximately 20% crude drawings of the object.

Nailed it. This is not a chicken and egg thing. Poisonous thoughts are bound to generate poisonous actions. All their efforts of superficial investment on environmental cleanup gadgets will fail in the end because these psychos make no effort cleaning up their toxic psyche, or mentalities.

the emoji in a professional or work communication......

when i challenge this or ask for clarification I get the 'hurt feelings' response.

I'd love to see how a job application would be received if there were emojis in the cover letter.
