One Chinese scholar told me it is because China only has 5,000 years of history and needs another 5,000 to become civilized.

Haha that's a good question. I've pondered myself whether Chinese people have bigger or more active saliva producing glands or something. The conclusion I've come to: growing up, they just didn't have a strict mama drilling it into them that it's rude to spit. In fact, their mama probably spat all the time , even on the living room floor so how can kids learn if they don't have someone to set an example? That's what I think at least.

Great dilemma: Chinese people are obsessed about staying clean...as in, staying clean inside, which is amusing, because it means dirtying every thing else around them.

And with the pollution here, who cares anyways..we're all gonna die young.

Chinese people (and Asians in general) suffer from what's known as phlegmatosis, or hyperactive mucous membranes which over-produce the glycoproteins that create phlegm, or mucous.

Only joking!!

It's due to excessive dust, pollution, and the innate fear of ingesting any bacteria that may lead to the dreaded 'gan mao'.

The air in clean provinces is still equal to half a pack of cigarettes a day. Also, what Martin said.

They always say they have a long history and blablabla but look at their behaviors.

Non educated

earthizen:

Easy. Tell them cockroaches have a longer history than them.

The cockroaches are an ancient group, dating back at least as far as the Carboniferous period, some 320 million years ago

why do most Chinese men smoke?

dont they know the dangers of smoking?lack of education when it comes to smoking?

Stiggs:

I don't know for sure because I can't read Chinese but I've heard that the tobacco companies (govt owned) tell people in their advertising that if they try to quit smoking they'll be unhappy and stressed.

Lack of education and profound ignorance can explain most of the odd and other antisocial behaviors you meet in China, ignorance is a fool's kingdom.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
