Elderley have more free time , kids too busy learning. I've watched them get those kites to incredible heights sometimes.

children and yong people more like Vigorous exercise or play computer game.

Not trying to be rude, genuinely want to help your English skills. Upstairs and downstairs really only works for buildings. In other situations, we can use the words "above" and "below". =)

I'm glad you took the criticism well! Actually, the only way that stops a person from stagnating, and thus not achieving native-like level, is for someone to correct errors. Otherwise, people just think "Oh, I know what you mean, so I won't correct it - it might be embarrassing"... so, the speaker never knows they're wrong, and thus, never gets better!!! It's a tough lesson, hopefully one that pays off later...

Actually, contrary to what one may think, flying kites is as much part of the Chinese tradition as calligraphy or painting. Children are sometimes initiated when young, but in fact, flying kites is oftent considered an art, as you need ability and skills to make one, or to fly one.
You even have a museum of Kites in Weifang in the province of Shandong, which hosts the largest kites festival.
