It's competition. They learn from childhood they have to be first, to the point where it becomes an obsession, like the examples you just gave.

do you heard chinese people alwasy said" chi kui " chinese words "吃亏", that mean they dont want suffer losses. maybe you will confuse what connect between "to be frist" and "suffer losses". let me tell you , if you first get on the bus, you have a seat; i am late and there no seat, i have to stand and wait. if you buy this new type iphon first, you get one, i am late, it sold out. i get nothing. so you see, if they don't want that thing happen to them, they must to be first. I think that there's a secret competition in where the first 2 people in any situation wins 1000 kuai. Otherwise for grown men to push little old ladies out of the way to jam onto a bus/taxi/train would be absolutely selfish. Same goes for leaving said vehicle. First 2 off win a new Black Audi 6000.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
