I don't think its the import duty, it the amount they selling here.. demand. Most items has a expire date and when they price there items they make up for half not sold. So the markup is high/

Taxes.

There is a substantial import tariff on goods from outside of China, depending on which country it comes from. Some American goods are taxed more than goods from say Holland or Germany.

Demand also does play a role, but for a lot of things there is a heavy tax put on those items to basically help the local businesses, which is why a lot of major companies (coca-cola, pepsi, etc) have production facilities here. An imported Coke runs between 8-15 rmb while a local one is like 2 kuai. It is exactly the same product, but the taxes define the cost.

"the reason why imported things cost so much is import taxes (example chinese goods sold in us 2%, us goods sold in china 22%) but this because us wants china to develop quickly because china is a poor developing country this is NOT unfair trade practices." "also there are additional markups because foreigners are rich and heavily burden by carrying around so much money, chinese are friendly honest and caring so chinese charge more money on things foreigners want to buy to help reduce the weight of the money they must carry around, china does not want to do this but china and chinese people are great and very hospitable. chinese understand that they must take care of outsiders.",

I think imported food is generally expensive in any country due to it being "imported" you know, added shipping costs, customs, tariffs, stuff like that.

Of course they don't know how to love, Chinese girls are the most shallow and selfish girls I have ever come across, anywhere. Of course they do talk a good game, lots of bull sh=t, but that is just saving face, like everything else in China. It is just beautiful ashes, like the crumbing buildings, the laws that no one follows, the dying or the attacked people that everyone walks by and pretends not to see. Come on, you've seen the viral videos all over Chinese websites, that all Chinese see and pretend they didn't see anything. A child getting run over. People watching, no one helping. It's a pretend world, with pretend feelings, and pretend expressions, and pretend harmony.

Actually, April gourmet is full of Chinese people at any given moment.

wenna7:

I was kidding. Don't be so serious. I buy import food too. Njord is right, all the shipment cost, tax and so on. It should be more expensive, made in Germany, made in Italy…… so far from China.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
