Q: Why is it that if I say I love China forum users will rip me apart?

And why is it that if I say I hate China other people will rip me apart?
And why is it that if I make a comment that has nothing to do with liking or disliking China people will rip me apart?
And why is it that if I ask a question that has nothing to do with China whatsoever I am ripped apart for defending/diparaging China?

I wouldn't take it personally. The Chinese here, and some of the more patient foreigners, really don't like to see China insulted.

Less patient foreigners (like myself) use this as a place for venting, as - ask any Chinese living abroad - dealing with cultural differences and other things can be pretty trying.

Try not to internalize what is really just something people use to pass the time for a few minutes.

kchur..When I read "...some of the more patient foreigners, really don't like to see China insulted"......I cringed.

It drives me crazy when a "foreigner" comes on here, or in person and openly gets upset and offended when the hear someone state a fact or opinion that may be derogatory about China.

As you said, this forum is basically a pastime. I will add as well as a form of entertainment and in many cases a source information. Nothing more.

China has it's ups and downs, just like anywhere.  I love China, but there is plenty for me to bitch about and things I don't like.  Just like I have always done, I will praise the good and bitch about the bad.  If I say "there is a scumbag store that rips you off", I'm talking about ONE PLACE not all of China.  Chinese people however think you are talking about China.

China is what it is.  Express yor opinion here.  China can be great or at times utterly ridiculous.  If people take offense to what you have to say, just scream "FREEDOM" in their face.

People here tend to be overly sensitive on both sides of the fence.
If you say "Why does China suck?" you will start a firestorm on both sides....disgruntled pissed-off expats agreeing, and locals and long time expats getting offended.
The opposite can be said if you ask "Why is China the greatest?".
Don't take it personally....I try to stay in the middle....although I have been guilty in the past of starting a shitstorm.....mostly after a bad China bay.  No matter what you ask or answer or comment you can be sure someone will get pissed off.

Actually the thing that really sets me off is people not using quotation marks in their questions properly but whatever. This is the interwebz. Get a thick skin or get out.

You can please some of the people all the time, or all the people some of the t..... naw forget that, it's the internet.  Someone is allways going to rip you apart no matter what you say, even if that person actually agrees with you.  Some people just like to watch the world burn.

Don't you know that they sell disillusioned expat sized shredders in bulk here?  I think every home comes with one now-a-days.  Mine is parked right next to my keyboard but it is on strike ever since I shove Mattie into it one too many times.

It's really a "no win" situation. Some people have a tendency to think in bulk, as in: all or nothing. To the Pro Camp, everything is rainbows and unicorns. To the Con Camp, everything is fire and brimstone. Just say what you think and then batten down the hatches and prepare for incoming!

I think that even if you just put "China." as a post, you'd get a random thumbs down, maybe later you'd get a random thumbs up, and some sarcastic comment about it. This is just the average. It doesn't matter what you write, someone will say something, and it's easier to say crap than it is to say something nice.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
