When this forum first came out people were helping each other with things that they actually needed help with. Yet now it's mostly rubbish with over sensitive people who only want their questions answered the way they wanted it answered, usually about a rubbish topic. So someone tell me why this help forum has turned into yet another way for foreigners to vent, give false legal advice, always reminding people " I can do this, I don't care about the law", becoming aggressive to a response that is suppose to be for their benefit and so on? Out of all the catagories for the majority, I don't see a topic as being a general question that should be done on the home page or an actual blogging forum. These general questions should be for legitmate topics, Are these points so valuable that people are just asking and answering questions to see who can get the highest rank, the VPN? Another webpage the Chinese can visit and laugh at us because of the aggression coming from people of our own kind? So clue me in, are the Chinese correct, are most of you here because you couldn't make it in your home country, taking advantage of being a foreigner and thinking you can get by with anything, complaining about anything and everything? Could this be why we only see the same faces day after day on this forum. After reading a few of the posts the others have no doubt ran away from yet another blogging bulls**t webpage that had good intentions but took a turn south. Some of you need to get a clue, as long as you're in China, we need to help eachother, because noone else is.
Why is it every time someone complains in China, people assume it's because we hate China? Why do they keep asking us why we are still here? Don't Chinese complain about their lives in China? Don't people from all over the world complain about everything no matter where they live? I've seen a lot of crap on here, but also a lot of good advice. From the painfully obvious trolls to the naive newcomers who have never even bothered to do any research on China whatsoever, it doesn't matter who you are, you can ask or answer any question you desire. Whether anything here is helpful or not is your personal opinion. People say what they want, isn't that a good thing? All information on the internet is subject to scrutiny, take everything with a pinch of salt.
With that said, suck it up, grow some balls, and when you've had enough cheese to go with that whine, maybe you can come play with the big kids.

"maybe you can come play with the big kids." Good answer. My sentiments exactly. In the South, the expression is "If you want to get off the porch, be prepared to play with the big dogs!"
simple, because there are rewards at the end of the tunnel also there is no other outlet to vent in the form of a blog because they are banned. we are human beings we will share our experiences colored with our opinions. we will go back and forth and discuss things openly because we were not raised in china therefore we were encourage to express ourselves.
even though this forum was not designed for this purpose , discussion will abound because in capitalism demand shapes the market. and sometimes the the greatest business discoveries are by complete accident and this site has stumbled on a huge demand for expats open discussion blogging, i can promise that will bring in more ad revenue than simple questions and answers
but sadly many people believe we should be narrow minded in our thinking, if that was the case western countries would lack business innovation the same as china lacks innovation. and where would china copy it's "great ideas" from?

and by the way, i am here because i could not teach in the states, (didnt major in education) does that mean i'm a bad teacher? lets see when someone looks at my qqzone they tell me i must be a great teacher because they read the comments left by my students , most comments are in chinese and i cant navigate qqzone so i havent read any of them. i dont feel im a good teacher, every day i feel i should have preped better or use a different strategy. but when i finish a summer session, and i walk into my class and i see my students decorated the classroom with "thank yous" and "we love you"" and "dont forget us" and all the "we love our class" written all over. and to top it off the give me an upscale notebook where each student decorated 2 pages and included a photo of themselves. i realize that i may not consider myself a good teacher but for some damn reason they do and they appreciate the effort!!!
HugAPanda:
crimo, what age group do you teach, and are you teaching oral english, or written as well? And actually, I know a lot of college adjunct professors who only have BAs/BSs that are offered positions based on their accomplishments and experience in their fields. You're young, I think. Get out and accomplish something so you can teach what you know. Or something
crimochina:
full time gig is college, summer i taught at an international high school. i dont want to accomplish anything my heart is in teaching and politics (not being a politician, analyzing)
Why does it matter? If you have a problem with this forum, don't be a part of it. Yes, it's a place to get help on important questions that many foreigners have, but it's also a place to vent to people who understand. Also, it's a place where you can learn a little more about Chinese culture.
This reminds me of the other week when I was on my way to work, crossing the bridge, there were all these cars stopped in the middle of the road with no drivers, and a huge crowd gathering around the edge. I pushed through to see what everyone was looking at, and it turns out a fisherman had caught this big yellow fish, as big as a filing cabinet.
Swear to god
Yanno.. this forum has helped me prepare for China more than most other forums I've been skimming through. EVEN & ESPECIALLY the venting and the... BS posts (as you called them).
As long as the mod doesnt mind... isnt it better they're venting here then in the streets? I'm not bringing any bail money! Ohhh... that reminds me... I'll ask a question about bail, and get points

Maybe this forum doesn't meet your standards Techezee, and at times I wonder about it and my questions, but it is not as bad as other sites where posters get really heated and spray slurs, like firefighters spraying water!
I post because maybe Chinese people will understand some things about: driving and how dangerous it is, how to make coffee, hygeine, etc also they may learn about their country as well.
I think most posts (98%) don't attack their culture at all, and if they do , admin cat deletes them.
As for points, well isn't everything a bit of a game any way?

Things can get rather nasty around here at times. You just don't see it, perhaps, because those posts are rather quickly snipped by the moderators.
I feel the same as you my friend except for the fact that I feel the exact opposite. I am happy to meet like minded people on this site, like Njord and CoC. Venting as it is called only makes me a better 'laowai' and more friendly toward the Chinese people I encounter from day to day. It helps me to become more tolerant towards them. Meeting like minded people lifts a weight off my shoulders and I am reassured that I am not alone in China rather there are a lot of people like me. I don't want to accept things just for acceptings sake. I want to learn why, I want to complain and be put straight if necessary. But there is one thing I don't like and that is those mindless people who just because they married a Chinese person forget where they come from and who they are to defend the undefendable. Eveytime I see a 'laowai' preach the goodness of China I believ they are not honest or sincere. I believe they have convinced themselves that China has no flaws and deluded into thinking that Chinese culture is comparable to that of the west. I feel sorry for such people. I may vent and I may let my feeling, mostly of frustration, get the better of me at times, but I am honest and I live in the real world and I tell it the way it is. Someone needs to wake up.
Yea guys.. Mr. techezee is just showing his profession here.. giving (or try to) advice. This site is cool we can ask and answer serous questions as well as many not serous ones... Its a way of communicating with others, so we here to enjoy ourselves.. and im sure this time i speak for many....
Looks like we have a few would be missionaries on here. Trying to let the locals know that they need to change to live up to the western way of things which is always as we know the best way. How would or do Americans, Aussies or Poms feel about new arrivals, religions or cultures trying to change the way of life in their countries. I am sure those guest who have moved there are certain their way ius better. For me I have no problem with them explaining why the way they behave, think or act is better and quite enjoy the discussion as it brings a lot of diversity to life. What pisses me off though is when they demand I change. No different to me living in China where I strongly disagree with many things the locals do and at times it does push your buttons to the point of utter frustration and I loose the plot slightly. On other occasions I can I just let it slide or I may try to explain or show them another alternative way and why it may be better. What I dont or cant do is demand that they conform to my way of thinking or culture anymore than an Islamic person could do to me in my country. So for those who think that I and others live in a fantasy world where we think all is perfect in China you are far from the truth. But I also have no right to belittle, abuse, feel superior or expect that they have to change because it is not my country. There is an accronym we use in Australia and while I don't agree with it's full interpretation (because I believe that others can bring their own culture as long as they dont try and FORCE me to change mine and it is lawful) It illustrates the choice others have if they are overly annoyed with our customs beliefs and way of life. The accronym is FIOFO fit in or F off.
crimochina:
to be honest the effect we have on the locals closest to us is to make them understand you can chase your own dreams , live life the way you want, dont worry about the dumbnosylookers in their city. set higher standards for your mate dont accept BS from your employer
if u dont like teh troll catz, den get offz teh entarwebz.
I post to get answers to things I want to know and I'm either serious or post what I find to be humour. Funny the cat doesn't have a sense of humour. Many of my posts get rubbed. I think my own cats and dog have a sense of humour.. Maybe i need a more vicious dog picture to frighten the cat?
Answers vary that's why there is an answer of the day. The person asking the question personally gets to pick the best answer that they see fit and the admin picks the best answer that they see fit. What you might think is a good answer may vary between users. Help is help! Getting too much help is better than getting none at all. I appreciate all the advice and just take it as advice or answers...some of the answers are funny and aren't serious but at least it can make you laugh. It's all in the 'eye' of the beholder.
This seems like a case of the "pot calling the kettle black," in which case your question would fall into the same catagory that you are in disdaining about, being; meaningless verbiage for points.
Here's the answer a Chinese person would give you, "If you don't like it, leave." However, being a patinet westerner, I would say, "Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just don't get your panties in a wad while you're waiting for something fun to come along."
giadrosich:
True. I just tried to "localize" it a bit to keep it in context.
localla, i am really not sure why youre using racist slurs against black people to a 35 year old white math teacher from New Zealand, but it pretty much sums you up, dui bu dui?
This is my first time reading the site....I'm profoundly baffled by the level of racisim tolerated(??) Anyone else?
DaBen:
Don't take any of it personal. Sadly it does reflect the real world. Just look at it as seeing another culture, you never have to become part of that culture, but you can learn from it and enjoy your style of life that much more.
981977405:
It's just a handful of folks around here that are so racist. Frankly, if they don't like China, let them leave.
I think people need to vent if they dont have an outlet,I think that if you dont vent you would go crazy.
its good to get things off your chest.
if using the forum is the only way then whats the problem.
