Q: Why stay in China if you complain so much about it ?
I'm seeing a lot of comments about how disgusting/rude chinese people are and how spoiled their kids are and how awful the bosses are. So why stay here ? I think a lot of chinese people are very friendly and they ask me questions about myself unlike some foreigners who seemingly always turn the conversation to themselves. If you are going to move to China, at least try to immerse yourself in the culture and don't just constantly look for things to critique.
I love living in China, it's my home now. Lived here 6 years & plan to retire/die here.
BUT......There are, though, some things that piss me off! So instead of showing it in public I vent steam anonymously on the Internet.
If you don't understand that you are either stupid, don't live here (Cub!) or are a local who can't see past your governments propaganda of China = good, not China = bad.

this will be my 16th year in China. I have a Chinese wife and a 2 year old boy. man if i did not complain about anything or get stuff off my chest on this website I would go crazy.
I have no trouble with people complaining and I certainly do not think that people who complain about China should leave China.
Part of complains is based on lack of understanding (surrounding environment, culture, language etc.) and these people would do themslef a huge favour to educate themselve a bit more.
I still find shocking when I meet an expat who lives here for many years, has Chinese wife and children but cannot speak the local language almost at all. How can such a person believe that he (for some reason I usually meet men ...) can really understand the environment around him.
But some complains are fully justified - China is far away from being perfect.
But so far so good. If a person wants to complain so be it.
What I absolutelly fail to understand is the open language hostility towards any poster with different oppion.
And what I find kind of funny is the fact that this absolutelly intollerant behaviour is coming from people blaming China for lack of tollerance!
It really looks that some of the posters show big deal of immaturity.

This is the way you would try to format an answer for the IELTS, although next time I recommend using the present perfect tense to explain things that happened in the past but are important now.

There's a whole world out there that isn't China and certainly isn't about to lower their standards to meet the shortcomings of the Chinese ('good is good enough').
You don't seem to grasp that a lot of 'angry' foreigners are doing nothing more than expressing their frustration with the Chinese way of doing things (short term thinking rather than long term).
There's also a difference between those foreign experts who were invited here for a reason as opposed to those who just showed up (F.O.Bs) and weaseled their way into a position.
I have been here almost 18 years, I have a Chinese wife and children, I pay taxes and train Chinese youth for overseas study. The greatest frustration for me is dealing with a principal (who cannot read, write or speak English) believe that whatever is too difficult for him to understand is too difficult for the students to understand. The principal above him made grandiose promises to a certain international education program to gain acceptance. Once we received the accreditation, the promises went out the window. With the compounding of lies, deception and out-right manipulation and quest for profit and glory (face), it's not hard to see why altruistic foreigners become jaded.
Care to know who is the biggest liar and deceiver is in China (based on my own experience)? My mother-in-law. Constantly promising my wife all kinds of help and support but never delivering on anything. I rely on myself to support my family but my wife gets suckered into trusting her mother because, well, the Great Satan is her mother.
Coin, Englishteachted, myself, et al, call a spade a spade. No candy-coating, no apologies. A lot of "new" posters - such as yourself - are either extremely naive or think that we're naive. There's a lot of entitlement, condescension and patronizing in these posts along with passive-aggressive behavior.
Hell, I've locked horns with several members of this board and I still have a great deal more respect for them than some newbie with no credibility (example: I've locked horns with RobK in the past - but I respect him. His recent post describing rich, arrogant Audi drivers fit the description of Mike695ca perfectly - and yet they're good friends...and I respect Mike695ca as well).
So, you have to ask yourself: is the problem with the existing forum members or is the problem with yourself? Hint: It's the majority of the newbies who seem to have a problem adjusting to the 'culture' of the ECC forum.

I clearly did not succeed to express my point of view properly. No issue with anyone calling spade the spade (irrespective if the person is or is not right) and no issue with anyone complaining about anything. There are for sure a lot of bad things happening around. What I find weird is the verbal hostility of some members. I find interesting the part where you write abou ECC forum culture. If it would be true so it would be really really bad culture. But I do not think so. I do not have the impression that this is ECC forum culture. Even though I heavilly disagree with some posters point of view so we can still have have more or less reasonable discussion. I think it's just a small group of immature posters who are bringing the culture of this forum down.
