Have you ever noticed that every city has a Beijing Road? In general, each city seems to have the exact same generic road names . Is there a reason for this or are the people responsible for naming roads just seriously lacking imagination?
Um, my city doesn't have a Beijing Road. I do see a lot of 南山路's and 中山路's in various cities around here (Zhejiang province).
Every city I remember visiting has a Renmin Road. I always thought that was strange.
Hulk:
Been there like 100 times in Changsha. The food kinda blows, though.
I was sitting the other day in front of Peoples Hospital No 2 and thinking the exact same.
If I am not much mistaken, the old Soviet Union suffers from the same lack of naming skills.
But I must say, I am pretty sure that many countries would have several of the same streets spread across the country. "Main Street - Springfield" how many places in the world could that be ?
By the way, I love the dumpling shop on Renmin Road
I think every city and town in Canada has a Queen St, King St, Main St., Center St. Why do places and names start with Z and X in China Instead of S in English?
Yeh nothing as original as 1st and 2nd st, or 22nd ave.
Like Canada, even a country at small as NZ has Victoria Streets and Queen Streets etc in all sorts of towns and cities. They are usually the main roads, Renmin roads usually arent the smallest either.
Imagine the confusion here if they discovered the most common street name: Railway Parade?
It doesn't just stop at street names. 90% of the population share the same 100 family names. Most words have multiple vastly different meanings. Chinese seems to be a very limited language.
Jiefang Lu - Liberation Road, Rongjun Lu - Honorable Army Lu, Zhongshan Lu - Sun Yat-sen Road, it goes on.
