Q: Why is traffic particularly bad in Beijing in the week prior to mid-autumn festival?
This week it felt like everyone was on the roads of Beijing...at all times. Even late at night.

As strange as it sounds, it has everything to do with mooncakes.
People are racing all over the place to cash in their vouchers and then bring them to family and friends.

From what I heard (something of a public secret among Chinese), it's all the bribes, in the form of hongbaos, being given out by people right before the festival.
