Q: Why you should never call SAFEA....
I had a friend who was a honorable and noble teacher who was beloved by all, especially the dean of his department. The dean however was mortally wounded in an administrative accident after his assistant had given him too much wine. On his deathbed this dean gave the order to give his trusted teacher a morning-only schedule, signed and sealed with his personal chop.
Confident that his schedule was secure this teacher went about his business in keeping faith with the old & honorable Dean. The new dean however insisted that he would need to take afternoon classes on Wednesdays in direct violation of the orders and wishes of the outgoing dean. Desperate to contain the situation, this noble & honorable teacher called up the local SAFEA office.
SAFEA swore on their honor to assist this man in speaking to the new dean and sent six SAFEA guards with him as an honor guard. However, when he showed the letter promising the schedule to the new dean, she tore it up and threw it on the ground. The SAFEA guards sent to protect him turned their SAFEA Tasers on the teacher and seized him at once. Betrayal!
This man spent the next two weeks in a dark SAFEA cell. SAFEA promised him that if he confessed to conspiring against the school’s scheduling office, his life would be spared and he would be allowed to take the vows and serve out the rest of his days as a man of the China Scam Watch. If he didn’t confess, the return plane tickets for his children would only be partially reimbursed and then only if the school was allowed to choose the flights.
Honorable to the last and desperate to protect his family, in front of the entire student body he confessed to crimes he did not commit. Yet where mercy was promised, none was given. The new dean had the hangman waiting and in front of a cheering crowd the confessed traitor was given his punishment. The crowd cheered, and the head SAFEA agent was given a cushy position as Dean of the Dining Hall for his role in this outrage.
No one ever found out what happened to the poor teacher, his sobbing students could only stare at the empty lectern, waiting for the teacher who would never come…

I remember reading about this on the CFTU website. In fact, the teacher's son travelled to Beijing to talk with the CEO of the head office.
On the way he stopped at Shanghai. He needed Guanxi to take on the CEO and so agreed to marry a minor officials daughter. Whilst on a day trip to the French concession in Shanghai he met a big bummed "beauty" called Victoria. He secretly married her and got her pregnant. When the minor official heard this he was outraged. Eager to quell the official's anger and try and regain the Guanxi he had lost the son agreed for his cousin to marry the official's daughter instead. He travelled to the wedding with his wife. They had a great wedding, everyone was happy and he would finally be able to avenge what happened to his father. The official stood up to give a toast to the son. The music changed to xiao pinguo, the son was confused. Someone walked up behind him and whispered into his ear "The SAFEA send their regards" and slit his throat. As he lay dying on the ground he watched helplessly as Victoria was stabbed repeatedly in the stomach and fell to the ground.

I bet the author is preparing an epic final bash & trash scene to close the series. Like at the end Cersei is going to say that the CFTU is a scam and Ned's ghost will return to explain to the audience that the only people who say that are recruiters trying to take advantage of innocent foreigners in China.
The studio audience will clap and cheer, and it will go down as the greatest finale in TV history. And then all will be right once again.
While everybody was wondering what happened to the teacher and family, in the meanwhile the new dean took charge and started making new rules, all the FT's were asked to work one extra hour on Saturday mornings, aggravated by this, but having no other option at the moment they all continued to yield to the vicious temper and sadistic streak. having a strong guanxi helped, his cruelty and ignorance makes him unpopular after he gets non-native FT on very low pay and makes them work extra hours…

Listen, I really like Putin I think he's got the right ideas.
But I can tell you that Vladimir Putin would take one look at you and how unremarkable you are and just start crying. Bawling his eyes out. He would be that disappointed.
Believe me, I interact with Russians on roughly a bi-daily basis and I know what they are about.
