Q: Will China ever be viewed as "respectable?"
It seems that in all Chinas' statements, new laws and supposed plans, the one common element is that China demands to be viewed by the world as an international leader, and demands to be respected. It is not something they are working towards - it is a demand based on self-perceived superiority and strength.
The new visa laws seek to impose as many penalties on foreigners as possible, while at the same time seeking to attract world-class individuals who have made significant contributions to various industries.
They seem to want the world's best, but to also exercise a level of almost total control over them that most will find unacceptable. I remember working in the auto industry a few years ago, and most former Detroit workers, working in China to escape the GFC, opted for unemployment in America instead of China's unrealistic expectations.
Given it's level of belligerence, is there any possibility that China, as it is today, will ever be viewed by the developed world as "respectable?"

Why, yes. Of course! Why not?
If they demand respect they shall receive respect. So long as they keep their promises on what they'll do to earn that respect!!

This time it was a cultural assumption that gave you away. In China, respect is demanded. In other countries, respect is earned.
The CCP is shown "respect" ** because it has power.

No.
China has no concept of earning respect or being respectable (by doing good things or having positive attributes). People in China aren't rewarded for merit or good behaviour, and, like the Communist Party, don't really understand the principle.
Respect in China just means having a high position and demanding that people respect you. But A) forced obeisance isn't actually respect, and B) people elsewhere in the world have free will.
Hey, what do you expect from idiots, forced respect, sounds like Iran. Funny thing, as you flip through the job postings and see low tiered universities requiring foreigners with Post-Grad degrees from top universities with sh*t pay, yeah, hey China kiss my a**

Actually, T, I've seen/been told about jobs from the TOP Chinese universities (BeiDa and ZheDa - haven't heard about SHJT) that expect high qualifications and lots of experience, but pay crap! (ie, 5000/month).
I recently asked a colleague who works at one of those place why they pay so low. Answer - so they can 'show off' how great a place it is that they can get FTs with such low pays - ie, they work there for the prestige alone! BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.......
