Q: Will the Chinese national Soccer team get any better?

Considering they did hire that famous coach I believe from Spain. Will they get any better because of his expertise in coaching or will it be the same national soccer team that everybody is use to? I mean you don't pay a guy millions and end up with the same results right? Apparently I'm talking about the men's team as the women's team has been remarkable these last couple of years sort of like the  U. S. A.  Soccer teams. Do coaches really make that much difference in the quality and performance of it's players?

Yes, that's why they pay the coach the big bucks. Sorry you lost your job. You can still be water boy.

They should improve but will never reach their full potential until they remove the corruption and nepotism that is so rife in the sport. Same can be said about most things in China and why they don't achieve what they should.

They will if either"

The domestic structure improves to such an extent that home grown talent can be developed. That would mean more foreign coaches and players coming here which depends on how salary levels develop.

or

Soccer academies in other countries readily accept young Chinese talent and develop them. That is difficult because of language and cultural barriers not to mention a little political/parental interference.

I believe so. It seems that more and more money is being invested in Chinese football recently. Shanghai being on the tip of my tongue after first signing Anelka and then going after Drogba. If money attracts famous players and coaches then this can only be good for the game here in China. In my opinion in will create competition and therefore better players at lower levels, this idea works in my head anyway.

I blame the schools, get rid of the basketball courts and stick a few goals around campus and we'll see the development at an early age, haha!

in a few generations, if they invest in junior centers, remove the nepotism and corruption. from 1.3 billion people, im sure there will be 22 excellent players.

derek:

....and good luck with that.

Your points are on target however...this is China. If corruption is beneficial in any way to some official they surely won't change it because it's "the right thing to do". That would deem him to be somewhat of an idiot and not clever at all.
