The promise to reverse the negative trends in trade mutual exchange with China was one of the cornerstones of Trump's campaign.Do you think it's possible for the U.S. to "bring enough jobs back" so as to make Trump's supporters satisfied and revert the negative trends?
Deporting 10 million people will help a lot, the most favored trade status for China could be reviewed annually instead of being permanent like it has been for over a decade. I really think the manufacturing will go to India and leave China. I don't think America will ever get this back but service and high end products could be possible. I think the link between China and America will bring them both down, especially the debt of both countries, already looking for a place to live in India, every consumer looking out for the own self interest, but damn i really hate curry.

I honestly think various other countries (including the US) would be smart to start investing in Africa - but unlike the Chinese, use local talent.

Ambi, I mean this with love, fuck you! China's favored nation status should be revoked until they treat all foreign companies fairly and stop stealing their designs and tech. Favored nation status should be reserved for Canada, Japan, India, UK, EU, Korea you get it, I'll even throw Cuba on that list. What they do in their own country is their business, their people should grow balls and handle their own govt. We need to stop pointing our finger at others cause our house isn't clean.

I think you should revoke the most favored for China also, but an annual review should at least be the start, I actually don't know with all the trade deals and corporate influence on american businesses and china buying off hollywood if Trump could revoke it, a lot of people from both parties have been getting rich off this long term plan since Nixon to make China a dependent trade partner who wants money more than war, it's not going to be easy to tear it down. It's like a 30 year marriage with lots of debt and assets, it will be a messy drawn out divorce, but I am damn glad to see it finally happen. We should have invested in the 80's in India, philippines, or even South America for capital growth and manufacturing. China was never a real threat, but now we gave them materialism and hope, they think they can run the world. poor fools.

dont agree with scots allan on too much,
but if america less the 5 percent of the people on the planet does not conform to world standards on using 220 power instead of 110 and switch to the metric system, we are going to be as foolish as the Chinese trying to feed 20 percent of the planet with 9 percent of the land. America may still be the biggest consumer, but eventually a factory will have to run a separate line for 110 toasters and bigger line for 220 toasters for the rest of the world as their buying power increases. America will not be the biggest consumer of products forever.
The problem will be - who's going to pay for it?
Jobs went overseas cos it was cheaper. Bringing them back, therefore, means it will be more expensive. Someone has to pay.....!
I work in industry. And most of the industry is here. The supply chain is here. The machine manufacturers are her.
I hope he can take some of the production line jobs back. He should start with the jobs he himself outsourced to China.
But the trade is complex. Trump makes his ties here because labour is cheaper, rent is cheaper, and the machines are cheaper. The capital investment is lower.
But he does not understand manufacturing.
Western company's take advantage of low labour and low machine costs. But when they need a good machine, or good ball bearings, good nuts and bolts... They buy from Germany, Japan, or korea. They don't buy American. Because America has not joined the metric modular age. America has no leading brands in the world of industry. America needs to go metric if it wants to be taken seriously.
I had a job this week, to get an American made machine to fit a jig we had. What a pain in the arse. What is this thread? Why is it not M10? Where the fuck do I buy a tap to make it fit?
End result? We don't buy American machines, or components.
Trump has no idea about all of this. Nor does America.
Start with reversing the lopsided trade deals. I don't know if this is current but the markup on American goods sold in China is about 15 times higher than the tariffs the US charges on goods made in China. Rip up those trade deals Bill signed (and whatever BS deal Obama and China are trying to hammer out now).
