absolutely. anyone who has lived abroad and dated for any length of time knows that this is just part of the deal. it can even be kinda fun helping each other with each other's language.
Strawberry, no one in SE/E Asia* who uses English as a second/third language speaks very well. We (native speakers) just don't say anything about it because what's the use? Just smile and say, wow! you really speak English well!
* possibly a few exceptions in former Brit colonies ~ eg. Singapore

The native one will at least won't make mistakes and can improve the non-native's English for better communication if the non-native one's English is not that suck. what if the nonnative one's English is kind of suck,how can another non native speaker who has ok English communicates with him and helps the one who is suck at English?
I prefer having deep and interesting conversation with my bf. History,society,human race,music,culture,philosophy,war.,,etc
How can a guy who is suck in English talk with me? My English is not very good,but usually I have no problem with most English topics.

It's of course hard to expect that non native speaker will ever get rid of the accent, will not make certain grammatical errors or will not, from time to time, select not the most appropriate words.
But it still does not have to mean that the person speaks just gibberish ...
I do not wonder to Strawberry as you need to achieve certain language level to be able to get over certain accent and grammar troubles but generally your statement would efficiently disqualify English as the current business and science world language no. 1.

How can I communicate with him? it takes too much engry to teach and language isn't something a person can learn fast.
I got a guy introduced me a French,he even barely could communicate with me in English. I turned him down in 30minutes and left.
Last night I just met a French guy who is interested in me while I was having dinner in French concession. But I found his English seem not good enough,I did not turn him down but I am so unsure,he looks cute though. When I said I have some friends who are bisexual,he throught I have sexual friends.
I talked a lot with my two American ex-boyfriends as my English isn't that suck and they could easily help me for explaining some certain words and grammar. I had no problem of having most deep conversation with them,gouxiong:

Of course one of the good points is to assess the reasons behind dating. If one of those reasons is learning English so from certain level up the native speaker may indeed help ...

I guess not very well too.I had experiences with dating native English speakers and non-native English speakers. The best communication I had are with native speakers.

Diverrdude is wrong here. My Chinese National wife has perfect English. It's closer to Queens English than my Scottish brogue ever will be. I also know a Welshman who speaks better Mandarin than my wife. Language is strange. You have the gift or you dont. I dont have it. I dont resent those that do.

Maybe you are talking about the pronouncation of speaking the lanuage. I am sure a native ones have better understanding about the language than the non-native ones do.
That's the reason most language schools in China only want to hire native English speaking teachers rather than your wife who speaks perfect English.

@ strawberry- I agree with u strawberry. It is one thing to learn textbook English and have nice pronunciation, but it is a whole other thing to be able to speak with a native as they speak with each other. How about when they use figures of speech (euphemism, alliteration, irony, hyperbole, allusion, simile, etc.) , slang, and how about cultural references? That's what really separates native speaker from non-native. I also agree with you that if a non-native speaker desires to improve their language ability, they should study with a native speaker.
*I know that knowledge of or lack of knowledge of cr's is not a measure of one's language ability.
I have in the past but at the time my Chinese wasn't as good as it is now so it wasn't easy. It did wonders for my Chinese ability though, I picked up a lot, fast.

Native speakers..... I Scots... so I have an accent. A heavy one. I work with Chinese, Irish (North and South), Brummies, Londoners, Cheshire, Chinese, HK, Turkish, Russian, Scousers,
I can understand Mandarin better than I can understand brummie

I've been on dates with girls who could only speak Chinese and probably would again.
. . .but the truth is that, in general, I connect better with girls who've been exposed to Western culture.
Even more, China seems to have changed me in a way that made me more attractive to Western women. . . and maybe even less to Chinese girls.
The fat n bald English teacher with the local hottie at the club will forever be a mystery to me.
These last months, no Chinese girl is contacting me every night to try to turn me into their "foreign boyfriend". I guess I just pissed them all off. . .
. . .but suddenly I'm beginning to see more and more Western girls checking me out - or sometimes even making a move. I don't recall this happening this much at the beginning.
