Q: Will you settle in China if the opportunity is given and why?

I think in years to come many people would like to settle here.

But the question is who wants to settle here now and why?

Well for me

I finally got the chance this year to work in Beijing with a big American company

Great money good job

and I let it go for the simple reason that the environment is better for my Kids in Australia

If we didn't have the kids things would be a lot different

But you know what?

My kids and wife make me happier than any job could

Not me. My time is almost up.

Not to be negative or anything, but I really can't see China being "better" in years to come. Too much baggage in the system, and, combined with social ethics being as they are, 1.3 billion people are not going to turn around and be anything than what they are right now. It would take a catastrophic event for that many people to become environmentally, culturally, and personally accountable, which seems to be something the current system neither wants nor endorses.

When you look at all things considered, China has hit critical mass, in that right now is as good as it gets. Sure, they will continue to build higher and faster, and, while ease of living will continue to improve, brought on about by acquisition of modern technology, the "quality of life" will remain the same, mainly because of mindset. By studying how societies and civilizations evolve (or devolve, as the case may be), as government gets stronger, the average citizenry is actually worse off as the system becomes over worked and under funded.

There are many more reasons why the "China of the future" will not be able to orbit above the "China of today," financial and political snafus aside, however, with that being said, where there is a curious and caring younger population at hand, change does happen, although there is always a price to be paid.

The above is just my opinion, of course, and in fifty years, who know, China may be the proverbial Shangri-la "in the flesh," but...

If I was a billionaire, and Visas weren't a problem, I might keep a winter home somewhere in the west of China, just for the food. But I wouldn't ever sink much into this country. Too much risk.
