The first thing I would do, would be to wash my cut finger.
I doubt that a cut finger would ever bleed enough that I would have to shower too.
TedDBayer:
Wait, bleeding will stop. If you are worried, you can wear rubber gloves to wash dishes. I am a man and always get small cuts and skin scrapes and I hardly notice them, maybe a paper cut.
... I disinfect the cut, put a small bandage on it, and life goes on. Yes, I keep taking a daily shower and washing my dishes. The bandage is changed daily, after the shower, when the skin is dry again. I assume it's a serious cut, not "I was peeling potatoes and I hurt myself a bit", this does not require a bandage.
This is a great opportunity to point out why TCM is wrong on ALL things.I will not but just explain how things actually work.
Blood serves several purposes in our body. The main function is to carry oxygen and other essentials around the body. The blood also serves as a protection against cuts and other injuries. By spilling out, it makes sure that contaminants that could otherwise cause infections do not get in. A cut will bleed a bit, then the blood solidifies (coagulates) and creates a small shield to protect the cut while it grows back together.
It seems in China it is very popular to put iodine on wounds. Don't waste your money. Wash the cut using normal water, if the bleeding doesn't stop easily, wrap in tissue paper and sit still (low heart rate = less circulation = less blood pressure at the cut) while applying gentle pressure. Then let air dry and just leave it. If you need to go out or do stuff where you need to use the injured part, put a bandaid on.
Once you have a "crust" on the injury, getting it wet might wash off that and can start bleeding again, then simply repeat.
There is plenty of blood, no need to panic over loosing a couple of drops. You will not pass out until you've lost at least a liter.
If you have a cut in your finger, avoid cutting chili for the first 12 hours, it just smarts too much.
Next question from Vicky:
"How should I breathe?" 5:1
"What side of bed do you get out of?" 3:1
"Does sex mean love?" 2:5
Taking bets now.
RiriRiri:
I'll take the last one, playing safe, with the extra bonus if she misspells "idea" again.
xunliang:
Yeah I had to give lower odds on that one based on her previous posts. I was thinking of adding a "My junkie boyfriend wants me back, what should I do?"
Vicky you might care to tell us why you think you would not do those things. You are a true example of the wonders of Chinese education.
I would make your BF do the dishes 'this week', 'cause you're 'hurt'
Bravelife:
No bf
So I brought a pair of long glove.
But just a bit cut when i was cleaning the crab. But I am senstive about the small wound and I feel a bit pain on it when I was touching my wound.
I feel my living habit might be a bit too noble, but I just can not change it.icnif77:
You could call your mum, to blow (air) at your cut like me...
icnif77:
Me neither! My mother blows air over the Skype/phone. It helps!Stop being 'smarter' than me!
Bravelife:
My Mom is too busy to talk with me even recently. The conversation won't be last longer than 5 minutes.
JacobJohn:
Hahahahahahahaha If you could see me now how I am washing my teeth, laughing and trying to write down how funny is this thread. I can see braveheart has a sense of humour. Hahahahahahaha Loooool. Not that out loud, because I am still washing the teeth. Did you try laugh out loud while washing the teeth? Thanks guys, you made my morning.
icnif77:
@JJ: It's 5pm! Get serious now! Spit out and try to whistle a tune
I will always keep taking a daily shower (or two, maybe three during Guangdong's steamy summer), I am not enough Chinese yet to take one shower per week and wear the same clothes for 3 days or more.
Bravelife:
I prefer taking shower at night everyday in the summer time and it makes me sleep more comfortable and I do not need to wash my sheets very often.
How about you? Many westerners do not take shower at night but instead they do in the next morning.
In the Winter,I took shower usually once in two days.
But I clean my teeth twice a day no matter in the winter or summer .
Eorthisio:
Bravelife -> Proof that you don't know much about "Westerners", in my country we have been taking showers at night for centuries, as do most of Mainland Europe. Maybe by "Westerners" you meant Anglos as do most Chinese being completely oblivious of other Western cultures.
icnif77 -> Conserve what? Water is not a finite resource unlike oil or gas, it can be cleaned, filtered and reused inefinitely, plus you don't need drinkable water to take showers and that's not the case in China, drinkable water is limited (3% of the world water resources) water itself is not.
Bravelife:
What do you mean by saying Maybe by "Westerners" you meant Anglos
Eorthisio:
Bravelife -> Anglos Saxons = Americans + Brits + Australlians + Canadians + New Zealanders + Some other English speaking countries.
Anglos Saxons is NOT equal to Westerners, Westerners = Anglo Saxons + Germans + French + Spanish + Portuguese + Italians + any other culture originating from Europe.
Know the difference, or you will look stupid in the eyes of your beloved "Westerners".
Scandinavian:
@Eorthisio: Damn straight, but I must add that I think many westerner do morning and evening. Can't show up at the office unbathed, but can crawl under the sheets with your woman unbathed !
Bravelife:
I think it is always to have shower before go to bed.Very comfortable
If you feel too hot in the moring, can get another shower in the next morning. But the night shower is a must.
icnif77:
'Chinese conserve water all the time!'
That's where the 'only occasionally (rare/not daily) showers' came from.......
Scandinavian:
I don't bother finding the statistics, but the taps in China are used a lot more than in most of the world. Sure, you can compare with the US and that makes anyone look good.
icnif77:
@Scan: 'I turned whole thingy around, as an excuse 'why shower only twice a week'. Me mind-ing 'face' a lot!' meiyou 'statistic'
Eorthisio:
icnif77 -> I think the "one shower a month" thingy is a war tactic in case little Japan attacks big China again, Japanese are so obsessed with hygiene, cosmetics and perfumes nowadays that they would never dare invading a country that stinks
icnif77:
@eort: 'Chinese military is improving with very fast pace with P's cooperation. Kalashnikov and things.
They all look at me, when….: 'If I can't shower and shave before class, no class!'
However, nobody asks 'why?'
Doesn't Burger king make you wash your hands and wear a Blue band aid if you have cut on your hand?
tomcatflyer:
Good to see Vicky is moving upmarket now, don't you know she wants to teach in Europe and open her own international company. She must be up to at least PizzaHut by now.
Bravelife:
Serious I never throught Pizza huts is something expensive in Shanghai.lol Almost no one think Pizza huts is something expensive.U get a big pizza just by a bit more than 100rmb,it is the similar price for my sandwich in Shanghai brewery I suppose. One cup of tiger in Blue Jizz already costed me 65rmb,let along the food. Pizza huts is just sth fancy for ppl in small cities. I do not like ur mocking attitude about eatting in burger king is sth poor, stupid mind.My boss only spent 12rmb for lunch usually. By this stupid attitude u hold,u just n make urself look funny. Lol...I do not mind in eatting my burger king.Cheap and yummy.Oh ...wait...U should mock mtyycousin as well. She also eat burger king with me after spending 7000rmb for a coat,5000rmb for a mobile… I am so poor.I spent 1000rmb for my coat and spent 20rmb for burger king, and 1000rmb for hotel.U s must be rich.Hmmm,Ur a westerner, then u should at least shop by 1000pounds back to ur own country.lol.We all know pounds,USd dollars and euro are more expensive than rmb.U should afford this standard if u call us poor. And u have to make sure it is so cheap to buy apartment in Shanghai by 4,000,000rmb for an apartment since rmb is cheaper and u guys are westerners.lol Be careful with the words ur using. If talking about wealthy,I can always mock back. For some ppl who talked about this not for mocking.U should know it is offensive in Chinese culrure and a very senstive topic.U should think about it before speak.Respect ppl when ur in his country. But I am sure most ppl talk about i can not afford anything more expensive than burger king are mocking at me. By Chinese income,I can spend 1000rmb on coat,If ur fron Europe, should afford 1000pounds for one coat. That is equal to mine.Otherwise I can just call u poor.lol Lol...I met a London guy make 7500 Pounds and he mock chinese ppl make only 7500rmb.lol And he throught he is richer than Chinese ppl who make 7500rmb as a Londoner living in a more expensive value of cash.7500pounds as income is rich?any ppl from England and know it is just ok as an English.Anybody makes more than 10000pounds here as westerner, hands up ?If ur making euro, should be making 8000euro to be at least ok.
It's a bit worrying that Vicky added "accidentally" after the "cutting finger" bit.
"I cut my finger" implies it was an accident.
"I cut my finger accidentally" says something rather different.
Take it easy Vicky . Please.
@ Scan has a good clear answer
if your cut hurts when you touch it, it is probably has a minor infection due to not being cleaned/disinfected soon enough: ie immediately.
the other guys have said what needs to be done with a cut, especially if you are in any non-hygienic environment like public transport.
a minor cut should be cleaned asap - i always wipe with disinfectant as well and always carry disinfectant wipes with me
allow to dry out, but cover with a bandage if you are likely to be outside and exposed to polluted/dusty air or public transport.
scratching will not help - disinfect with a very dilute product like dettol (i have this to clean kitchen/surfaces etc) and cover with a bandage.
change the bandage every day. don't think you are saving money by reusing a old one.
washing your hands after every meal is a basic.
wearing gloves when washing-up protects from infection.
icnif77:
I saw 'bondage' somewherein your reply. Sorry, it's 'band-age'! I see nowww...
Should i sign off? I can't see well anymore....
