Q: Work experience before getting a work permit?

I am married to a Chinese girl and we are talking of moving to China within a year.

The problem is that I finished my education 6 months ago and I heard you need 2 years of work experience before you can legally work in China. Is this true?

If it is, is there any way to go around this? Like working with something I am not educated to do.

I am IT educated and 27 years old in case that matters.

For a lot of schools, you can get a job teaching English without the experience. I did. What you should have is a Bachelor's degree. Completing a TEFL course of some kind, even if it is online, will help, since most offers ask for you to have that. You should be very careful looking for your first job. There are a lot of scams out there, so do your research before signing any contracts.

So for a teaching job I do not need any work experience to get a work permit?

GuilinRaf:

If you have a university degree then you should have little or no trouble finding work in an University even if you are freshly graduated.

It is true.  You need 2 years work experience (post graduation) outside of China

THUMBS THIS DOWN AS MUCH AS YOU WANT GUYS. NOW GO AND CHECK YOURSELVES AND THEN COME BACK AND APOLOGISE.

I am graduating from a Chinese uni this year so I think I know more about this situation then any of you know it all dicks who already have a visa. YOU NEED 2 YEARS WORK EXPERIENCE AS OF JANUARY THIS YEAR

I asked the same damn question not so long ago. whoever thinks you dont need 2 years work experience should go and do their research before writing crap on here. This guy isnt even in China yet and he knows about this!!! What just because you have a visa means they wont change the rules for getting one afterwards?

Exactly what I heard.

Is there no way around it?

Like getting hired in a position without showing my diploma?

xunliang:

Really not sure. Im in a similar position to you. If your degree is from a foreign uni then just make a fake with a fake date and make up some work experience. Im not sure about an F visa but lots of people I know work on that. Marriage visa is also an option for you and you could work illegally on it (not that I condone that :D). Where is your degree from?

Like I said before, if you have a Bachelor's degree, even without experience, you should be able to get a legal work permit. Did you go to school for 4 years? Even if you didn't, you will still have a chance at getting a Z visa. Don't fall for the F visa crap, don't work illegaly, because there are so many chances to work legally. You don't want to get kicked out of China, do you? Because if you'd get caught, you'd be in that much trouble.

Both my universities check the diploma and make sure it is genuine. Fake diploma,in my experience, would be risky.

Now, for a language training school, I do not know, since I only work university.

Jnusb you got your visa last year. this rule started in january so dont tell the guy he can get a job at a uni cos he cant. LOADS of people work on an F visa, LOADS. Its not the best way to do it I agree but plenty of people do. As to checking whether your degree is fake or not its pot luck. Some companies check some dont. I know people with fake degrees so dont tell me it doesnt happen

I do not want to work illegally, which is why I am asking here.

My degree is from a kind of school we only have in Denmark, but is equivalent to a bachelors degree, but technically isn't. My friend with the same education got rejected a work permit because of this.

Is those 2 year work experience only if I want to work in the field I am educated in? Because in that case I could work as a teacher and build up some work experience by doing freelance IT jobs over the internet.

GuilinRaf:

Some foreign companies only hire from the "Head Office" and not in other branches. Maybe you can find if any company based in Denmark has a branch in China and if so, if they have need for an IT specialist?

Best of luck!

That is what my rejected friend did.

Only way that would work is if they station me in China, but I doubt they can do that for 1½ year.

If you were here in China it would be easier to sort out. Personally I think you're only options are an F visa or forging a degree, or working illegally but thats not advised

Luckily I have the option to stay here working for 1½ year, so I guess I will just do that.

Thanks for all your answers.

Hey, so I was kind of in your situation (technically still in that situation). I graduated last May and came to China.

My first company was a little shady and I was working until my tourist visa. Not wanting to get deported, I changed jobs at the end of last year and found this new company.

My current company (not teaching) asked for my high school diploma instead because that way it will be genuine and earlier dated and used that to get my work visa. They "lied" and said that after high school I did some projects for them in HK and put in a good word for me.

Talk to your school/company and see if they can do something similar.

I do know another person who photoshopped their graduation diploma to make it look like they graduated two years earlier.

Xun is correct, I have told everyone before as an ESL teacher you must have the experience, although a lot of people can fake the resume, that would be your best bet for they really don't check. Training schools are able to do certain things but from the posts I've read and legal issues I've dealt with from other foreigners, I would say stay away from the training schools, you can however work in your IT field, search for this
