10 years 17 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
Try "Would anyone give up their nationality to become a Chinese citizen and get a billion RMB" !!!
TMaster:
A billion RMB will buy you back any nationality you gave up plus you probably wouldn't have to give up your Chinese passport :)
DrMonkey:
Yes, with one billion RMB, you can pay for a "Business Resident Permit" for USA, Australia, etc.
TMaster:
I don't mean to nitpick, but really, with that kind of HSBC passport, it doesn't matter anymore when you come from.
Yes, I want to have lots of visa restrictions, but having no right to elect who represents me, and being entitled to fuzzy rights defined by fuzzy laws and enforced haphazardly. Ha, and being guilty by default, unless I can prove the contrary ! Now that's justice !
DrMonkey:
You can be naturalized Chinese citizen ! It's easier if you are "ethnic Chinese", ie. have parents who were of Chinese origin. But it does not seems a very common move, if I believe Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationality_Law_of_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China#Naturalization
I wonder why ! I mean, being reunited with the Han Kingdom, who with a true Han blood could say no to that
That's a trick question, right?
Iron_Monkey:
Really I don't see the trick, but maybe it's just me.
Gotta get my boxer shorts at K-Mart. 4-6 point 1-5-1-9-2-3-0-4, 2-3-04. Uh oh fart.
skunkman:
hahaha...I should take you with me to Las Vegas to play some blackjack...haha...and oh yeah, K-Mart sucks!
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha....
Hahahahahahahaahahaha..
Hahahahahahahaahah...
Hahahahahahahahaha...
No.
I would. in a heartbeat. Canada allows duel citizenship so no issues there. China doesnt regocnize 2 passports but what they dont know cant hurt them right? you would be surprised. I know many many people that are chinese citizens with a foreign passports. Best of both worlds, no visas no worries but you can screw off whenever you like.
ironman510:
you have to show them that you cancelled your previous citizenship
mike695ca:
you are supposed to, but its based on the honour system, they have no way of checking. Im not guessing here, the amount of people i have worked with that have 2 passports would shock you. Im talking dozens, and ive yet to meet someone that actually denounced the chinese citizenship. Im talking here, not back home, im sure there is a tonne back home.
To the OP, have you any idea how FEW naturalizations of foreigners occurred in all of China last year?
From what I hear, maybe "200" is even a very, very generous figure. The process for a foreigner to acquire Chinese nationality is fraught with pitfalls, not least a working language of the language, adopting a Chinese name, family affiliation, and then the rest I won't go into.
Scandinavian:
you need the Chinese name just to get a drivers license, which is strange because you don't need to know how to drive
mike695ca:
i was under the impression that their was no naturalization? I thought that 200 figure was for " green cards" issued. Very different from becoming a citizen.
belle_watson:
Mike, no, no there is naturalisation for sure but the process is arduous.
Something like 10 years of continuous residency in something deemed beneficial to the national interest, a command of the written language of not less than 2,000 characters, the adoption of a Chinese name, sponsorship by a Chinese family whose name one will assume, renunciation of all prior nationalities in writing at the respective consulate of the country concerned, a myriad of PSB interviews and the like.
I only know of very few who have done this.
TMaster:
Get your application some facevalue, participate in whatever lame show is popular at the moment and cry over how much you love China, paperwork will drop dramatically.
Expecting China to be as it is today so appealable to such extent, would be pure arrogance...beyond any imagination. I would never give up, not even for a day on my Citizenship for the Chinese one. Never, ever! God forbids!
why ask? nobody's ever given this option in China anyway..
It depends, can I be just 'any' Chinese citizen? If so, yeh, i'll choose Zhang Ziyi from back when she was in Crouching Monkey Hidden Dragon (y'know, before she started ripping off earthquake victims of money donations), then I can strip off, bend over and look at myself in the mirror all day. When can I start?
even if you became a naturalized chinese citizen, you would always be a foreigner.
so my answer is no.
can i fart on it?
nicholasba:
feels better :-p
besides, in the past maybe, but now im moar & moar proud to be a yangren 洋人
Crazy shit! Every other civilised/advanced country big & small acknowledges dual citizenship, but since Emperor Mao, introduced this law back in 1950's its still stuck!
Makes me think, excuse the cynicism, but more control over their people. If they were also, e.g. Canadian then the Can Govt could/would step in to protect their own citizens, esp for human rights issues or other.
Nope, not even for $5 trillion USD.
mike695ca:
common, not even 5 trillion USD? For that much id be whatever nationality they wanted me to. And id throw in a bj for them too. Maybe a couple...... but no more than that. Thats gay
Hulk:
It's only gay if your balls touch.
Oh, and... well, for 5 trillion, maybe... provided I'm allowed to change back without repercussions.
getting a foreign passport is easier everyday, but passports with low taxes and good agreements for visa travel are the best. china only has about 30 countries you can travel to without a visa and most of them are less developed than china, perhaps we could call them the nomadic neanderthal coalition of paradise countries. dont forget your passport, you may need some paper for the toilet.
Money can buy back my american citizenship. So for 100,000 usd plus whatever the cost to buy Canadian citizenship.
If it weren't for my social security from the US of ...
hahahaha I had you! Right? Right?
Never. I reckon hell no.
I'd sooner chop off my limbs
and flop in hot cement
than give up my U.S. citizenship
I would. I like the city I live in. I have lived here for many years. I have a beautiful wife who takes care of . We own two homes here. I do not need a car here, which is great. No Obamacare for me. Even though most jobs would be of the teaching variety, I can always work, picking up jobs as I go along.
If I could be a citizen, I feel that a lot more opportunities would open up for me beyond the limited teaching bullshit and chasing Z Visas/Residence Permits every year. Frankly, I would love to go and retire in either Dali or Lijiang, Yunnan. Nice cities, great landscape, interesting people, good food, near SE Asia and Burma, decent nightlife, lovely cool summer weather. I would love it there.own ad guesthouse and a coffee bar, maybe teach some students on the side and just kick it.
I honestly have very few issues about China. I miss YouTube and certain foods. I miss NFL and Tex Mex.......the rest, keep it. Keep your guns, your prisons, asshole cops, gay marriage, Obama, culture wars, senseless violence, paranoia, professing Christians, stupid asshole laws. Keep all of it. Many Americans now want the hell out. Some come to Asia, some go to South America, many rich people go to Europe.
What is so special about the United States? Not much. Most of it will end up looking like Mexico in fifty years, with the hood rats in control of the cities robbing old ladies and raping dogs while scared humans are living in their homes behind closed windows watching Duck Dynasty with a bottle in one hand, a meth pipe in the other and a Bible between their knees.
sorrel:
there are other countries in the world other than the US - no offence guys.
to ignore the rest of the world, or lump all non-Chinese countries together is like seperating the world into China and 'foreignerland'
No matter how much people may love China....when the shit hits the proverbial fan...and it will eventually...where would you go??
You would have to be a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic and high on kool-aid (amongst other things) to even consider it.
In fact I would be very surprised if this question was NOT asked by a propaganda publicist for the CCP.
Is China a great place to live at times? Hell yes! Does living in China blow chunks sometimes? Hell yes! But I sleep easy at night knowing I can always go back home to mountains hockey and universal medical.

I can't breathe... LOL!
