Sorry I know this is a China board, I am torn between teaching in China or S Korea. The money is much better in S Korea. Would you guys consider teaching there given the tensions?
Thanks
Yes, I would take a job in S Korea. If war comes then life on planet earth will either be non existent, or we will have no social order anywhere, particularly in China, because a conventional war would drain everyone's resources in a matter of weeks. I don't agree with staying in North America just because a little boy in Korea wants to be noticed.
I have thought of this too.....yeah I dont know...seems like shit could just pop off with KJ1. And if it does...SK would not be a place to be. Then again..neither would china or Japan or anywhere around here.
ironman510:
But China is much bigger and safer at this point. Korea is the size of our finger nail.
No, I wouldn't consider South, 'cause I am Non.
Now in North-y, I might qualify .
ironman510:
haha, you can save the North. Breaking News: North Korea gives up nukes due to a non native Teacher who made Kim laugh for the first time, but how and why are unknown.

'.... and then he told the Board about 'killing' he's making at Kim's and many posters changed their .... bank accounts ... afterwards....'
How dare you or anyone even consider that treacherous country. How dare they buy defensive missiles to protect themselves. As we all know China is their protector. China should launch a preemptive strike!

If your under 40 years old and you teach in China instead of South Korea, you must be allergic to money, or rich already.
Most teachers that are young go for the money, many pay their student loans off teaching in South Korea.

I was in Korea for years, the money is good, but in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai and HK you can make sh*t loads of money here. I make more than in Korea, even with the dllar rate, I still make more, well I have worked at the same company for 8 years, salary do go up. I will never work in Korea again as it was boring and too small.
Don't worry too much, South Korea is a very safe and fine place to work, NK has reality TV shows, that's all it is, we've all been enjoying the show for years, relationships have been much worse then this in the past, so don't over blow the current media being posted, NK wants food and free money, China, Japan & U.S want NK back at the table for talks. So thats what will happen again and again, NK will cry and they will get food & money and the talks will start again, than stop again, than the you'll see on reruns on TV again.

New leader - new ideology.... don't be so sure the past will repeat as easil.
South Korea is an organized and clean country no doubt, and people are respectful (if you are white LOL) but you will feel so lonely in there, it's a stressful country, too expansive, u will miss hanging out with people like you do here in china lol
ironman510:
Agreed, very lonely. I was bored out of my mind after 2 years there.
Don't worry about the tension. This is no secret, USA has 2000+ nukes, UK, FRANCE, GERMANY and other developed countries each has about 150 to 200+, PRC has 150+. In the event of a war, all one needs is to drop one nuke, at the most a few, into the key agricultural region of the enemies. What are your soldiers going to eat? You don't even have to bother about their capitals and financial centers. So, who dare start a real war, including BS North Korea?
The general population of S. Korea is well educated, and education is highly valued for decades, unlike PRC. S. Koreans are well mannered, civilized, dress tastefully, generally speaking. A young American biologist who has never been to china I know of is teaching there. After I showed him a group of mainlanders, life, in an Apple shop by pointing them out, and the traditional, authentic chinese (obviously not mainlanders) out, without even a moment's hesitation he says he wouldn't visit china. The contrast is that huge.
If you know something about aura, the contrast is even more shocking.
I guess it all depends on what are your priorities. Is it saving money or something else. Having lived in both countries I can say without a doubt that saving money is so much easier for me now that I live in my tier 88 city in China. I can save triple what I was saving in S.K. without even trying. The three months paid vacations are nice too so I can leave and decompress someplace nice and warm too. China for me.
