Last night:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-04-06/us-launches-air-strike-syria-ov...

Rex Tillerson addedhowever, that the US "sought no approval from Moscow." He added that Russia is either complicit or “simply incompetent” for not adhering to a 2013 commitment to secure Syria’s chemical weapons, the Associated Press reports.

House Speaker Paul Ryan called the airstrikes “appropriate and just.” At the end of the statement, Ryan said he looks “forward to the administration further engaging Congress in this effort.”

According to the press pool, Trump personally informed China's president Xi of the Syria strike.

* * *

While we await Russia's reaction, earlier in the day Russia's deputy U.N. envoy, Vladimir Safronkov, warned on Thursday of "negative consequences" if the United States carries out military strikes on Syria.

"We have to think about negative consequences, negative consequences, and all the responsibility if military action occurred will be on shoulders of those who initiated such doubtful and tragic enterprise," Safronkov told reporters when asked about possible U.S. strikes. When asked what those negative consequences could be, he said: "Look at Iraq, look at Libya."

* * *

For now, the attack appears to be over with ABC quoting a U.S. official after U.S. missiles fired at Syrian airbase who said: “We’re done until another decision is made.

I don't wars will ever be the same as they once were. Large countries won't attack other large countries because of globalization. Companies would have too much to lose.

Instead they will fight over territory or resources within these smaller undeveloped countries.

Syria has been divided for a long time between various factions...some ISIS controlled, some Russian controlled, I think one is backed by Iran, another local group of rebels and the American coalition. It is just a huge mess... the country will most likely break off into smaller permanent parts like Libya did.

WW3 is no where near, some people have too much of an active imagination, after we went into Iraq I heard the same thing from this site and others, you said WW3 but still there hasn't been a WW3 and there will not be one, Russia is much smarter then they look on the media and so are China and the U.S, what the media wants you to hear & see is the drama so the ratings go up, but what you are actually seeing is our so called clown actually doing something unlike Obama. So what you are actually seeing is a 1. Trump taking care of business and 2. A reality message sent to NK and 3. Good old fashion politics.

@NicholasBa, I don't know how old you are, but you really need to grow up, I know how it feels to ride on the so called "drama roller coaster" as some may call it, but you really need to get off of it and start to mature a bit.

nicholasba:

And to write this how long did you think before? Interesting you mention Iraq. An illegal war based on false claims, just to steal resources from a country. Wow, and you're proud of this huh?brainwashing works fine on tools. Talking about Syria, i guess you're in good hands with a president that within 2 days wasted 60 missile just to "to send a message" less than the half actually was necessary and managed to kill 4 children. Alright, killing then with gas is way worst,huh. Well you did that in Iraq though...besides, your president source was who? Erdogan?bother to know what erdogan did?isis? Who is supporting this clown now? Saudi Arabia?israel?turkey? Should I continue, big boy?nah let's see the great strategy behind

@iron man, that's ironic

Why didn't Obama do anything?

He asked congress to approve airstrikes directly against Assad and they refused led by Republicans and TV mouth pieces like Trump, 2013, let's not play dumb

Firstly,I agree that this is unlikely to start WWIII... Putin isn't likely to retaliate, and Assad can't do much about it.

Strong words may be expressed, and maybe the occasional cold shoulder... but not much else.

As for Obama, and their involvement in Syria... one fo the things that got the US involved (directly) was the Ghouta chemical attack (extremely reminiscent of this one... Here's part of the US government response back then...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Government_Assessment_of_the_Syrian_Government%27s_Use_of_Chemical_Weapons_on_August_21,_2013#Responses

It wasn't at all certain that Assad used chemicals then... just like it's not certain now!

You are funny man, you sound like a guy that didn't finish high school and now you're so paranoid about this ironic things you speak of that you actually believe in your own exciting drama. Some may argue that WW3 started after 9/11 that is still the war today known to many as the war in the middle East. Even if we hit the DPRK it won't start WW3. Lots of blame and media will go into it but it will make the world a better place and China & Russia know that, they'll say finally we can stop baby sitting these fool's. Lay off the cigs & beer man, don't read too much into the drama, the media wants you.

That would depend on your definition of WW3.

Wars all over the world would escalate, especially after various missiles go 'off target'. And, if we're talking nukes, it may not make too much difference.

So basically USA is ignoring Saudi Arabia crimes (do I need to list them?apart for giving weapons to Isis ), what's happened in Yemen, turkey, Israel and some other countries where sharia is strict applied but is attaching again a nation and violating the same international laws (this time also its own) they accuse other to break.

Interesting are following facts about Syria :

The Assad family belongs to the Alawites. The most tolerant of Islam.

The Syrian women have the same rights as men in health care and education.

In the countries of the Middle East, Syria is one of the most progressive in terms of gender rights.

In Syria, women are not obliged to wear the burqa. Sharia (Islamic law) is unconstitutional.

The Syria is the only Arab country with a secular Constitution and does not tolerate Islamic extremist movements.

About 10% of the Syrian population belongs to one of the many Christian denominations present in both the political and social life. This religious tolerance is unique in the area.

In other Arab countries the Christian population is less than 1% because of sustained hostility.

The Syria is the only Mediterranean country which remains the owner of his oil company, who asked not to privatize.

In Syria are granted the social mortgage loans to purchase subsidised home with dignity ...

nicholasba:

not saying that Assad is a saint, but aren't we done with exporting democracy? seriously,  is pathetic what we, as the west, believe and do. Is just since the end of ww2 that US supported by his dogs think they are entitled to teach those "rogue" states a lesson,a dj what's the result? Chaos.

And this is precisely WHY the US is meddling in Syria... they can't have a country that's actually relatively stable there, but with ties to Russia!

Engles - the US should be involved in the Middle East - but in very very different ways to the current situation! Such as, stop encouraging Israel (by vetoing every Security Council resolution), stopping the  Saudi regime (by propping up the Sheikdom etc), and funding the rebels and extremists.

“The best way to help Israel deal with Iran’s growing nuclear capability is to help the people of Syria overthrow the regime of Bashar Assad.”

Hilary Clinton"

My only reason for thinking Trump might be better for the rest of the world is because I knew Clinton was a warmonger...

Looks like that's just been thrown out the window...  If Trump is going to be so easily manipulated.

My thinking on it is there is clearly an invisible hand in play. They want powerful nations to be at each others' throats in order to justify military spending. I don't think he was manipulated, he was essentially pushed, forced even. Remember back when he was called to a meeting, after winning the primary, he changed a bit after that. I think they showed he the Kennedy tape. Kennedy was the last president to truly go against the war hawks.

The Carrier group is not going anywhere near NK. In fact NK will disappear before anyone on the planet hears about it. Like 30 minutes after the fact. It works like this: 20 B2 stealth bombers take of from a base in Missouri. Half a dozen hours later, NK is gone. That's when 20 million people start fleeing into China and S Korea looking for food and safety.

Israeli PM Netanyahu has expressed “regret” to Vladimir Putin over the downing of Russia’s Il-20 plane. He pinned the blame for the incident on Syria, but added that Moscow and Tel Aviv should continue coordinating their efforts.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-09-18/over-40-congress-members-send-letter-white-house-demanding-trump-seek-approval

A group of over 40 Congress members have sent President Trump a bipartisan letter reminding him that the US Constitution requires that the president seek Congressional approval before taking military action in Syria or elsewhere. Congressman Justin Amash (R-Mich.) announced via Twitter on Monday that the letter had been sent to the White House.

Ironically Rep. Amash made the announcement just as Monday's evening's massive Israeli strike on Syria was underway, which resulted in a downed Russian surveillance plane carrying 14 troops amidst the confusion of missiles flying over the Mediterranean as it was hit by Syrian defense attempting to stave off the attack by Israel.
