Q: Xiamen University's Xiang' an Campus: Island Paradise or Soulless Construction site?

It seems to be a brand-spanking new campus and as such I have been able to gather precious little information from the interwebs. I'm heading there for a semester next week. If anybody out there has ever been there I would be very interested to know what it is like in terms of public transport, recreational facilities, education, environment and of course food.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My husband and I went to Xiamen for a holiday in Jan this year  and We visited Xiamen University. it's beautiful and very close to the beach.we saw some westerners around.there's a big bus stop next to the university too,You can just get a bus to the city which takes around 15-20mins I guess, pretty close ,actually.Plus ,Xiamen is a small city with less pollution. It's absolutely one of our favorite place.

Hope you have a good time in Xiamen.

Xiang'an is a different story...it's a dirty village, nothing to do there, pretty far from the actual Xiamen. Have no idea about the campus but I know that many students quit Xiada because they were moved to Xiang'an. I live in Jimei, Xiamen.

Jimei is pretty awesome.

Come on man, its one semester...you'll make a lot of friends...its Uni life, who cares where it is surprise

dandmcd:

Have you ever seen the universities here?  Most are soulless cold dark and boring places ,with no entertainment, no next door bars or clubs, and nothing to rally the school together like sports.  Students tend to keep to themselves or in their dorms, at least at the schools I know.

At least being a foreigner it will be easy to take home college girls wanting to "practice" their English.  That;s the only redeeming factor of college life here for foreigners.

Yes, I have seen one...and about to start working at it for a 3rd year...Before you say something like this, go look up Xiamen University (the one he's going to)...The main campus is a tourist attraction in itself...hundreds of international students from wherever you can think of...My Uni doesn't fit your description either...I can get pizza and beer, 5 minutes walking distance from the back gate and it ain't too bad either, cheers! wink
