Q: You can't so you won't, but if you could, would you?

If you could get Chinese citizenship alone or dual, would you and why or why not?

If I could get a dual citizenship easily I wouldn't need visas and visa runs.

From a professional point of view, dual-citizenship would rock for me.

I'm about to stop living in China permanently. I'm planning to spend like 2 months (split in 2 or 3 stays over a year) in China where the customers are with the fancy suit, and 10 months working remotely from home in my pajamas. Rather than doing 3 visas a year and filling my passport in 2 or 3 years, residency or something like that would be cool.

I would consider dual citizenship, I mean why wouldn't you. If it doesn't influence your other nationality or traveling then why not?! And then as Ted says, we wouldn't need visas etc..

Only if it's dual and only to avoid visa runs. And you're right, it is a dream, not reality.

I would get dual citizenship if possible. Makes life easier not having to worry about stupid visas. Although, that would probably be the only reason...

I can't think of anything else.

Citizenship, even dual, would mean that China has every right on you and can treat you like shit for any reason they want just like they do with every other of their "citizen". Even the word citizen sounds weird, I don't think whatever the have can bear the name, from a country that spreads where it shouldn't and that's not welcomed where it should.

Anyway, you think about that. Me, I'm fine with the sticker in my passport.

No!

Simple as that...

There are a number of other nations that I'd take citizenship from, but not Chinese.  I choose to stay here (for now) because it's useful. I'm not married to a Chinese girl/woman, i don't have any kids, and there's a whole world out there I'd like to get around to seeing.

Chinese citizenship offers nothing particularly useful to me (and the visa run thing is an inconvenience... not worth becoming a Chinese citizen just for that).

As for Ted's thing about buying your own house - there are oh so many other places in the world I'd be buying in!

Having dual citizenship here would be good while you are here, assuming you are planning to stay for a while. You'll be entitled to local medical insurance, getting your driver's license would be easier, buying a house and a car, getting loans from banks, etc. A few thing I can think of. Of course, you'll be subject to local laws but having a RP here subjects you to the same laws anyway. When you finally want to leave, just cancel your citizenship or keep it for next time. But all tius is just wishful thinking because China doesn't accept dual citizenship, neither does my home country.
