Q: AI: Will language teaching soon become one of the obsolete jobs?

China leading AI expert:

https://www.rt.com/news/448524-ai-jobs-future-robot/

Almost half of all current jobs will become obsolete in just 15 years, according to one of China’s leading experts in artificial intelligence (AI). Kai-Fu Lee, a writer, venture capitalist and technology executive who has over 30 years’ experience in AI, claims the world of employment is facing a crisis “akin to that faced by farmers during the industrial revolution,” reports the Daily Mail.

Lee, who’s appearing on CBS 60 Minutes on Sunday to spread the word, says he is trying to warn those most at risk so they can start retraining for the new world. Lee also warns that education will need to adapt to prepare younger generations for the new landscape.

AI may be the future, but it can’t do everything, claims Lee, who says certain professions are safe from the revolution. Especially those that involve empathy or human to human interaction like therapists, nurses, teachers or doctors. Innovative and creative professions are also safe because AI generally struggles to do the work of scientists or to deal with the unknown.

The jobs most at risk in the next two decades are roles than can be easily filled by robot technology, like telemarketers and telesales, customer support, warehouse workers, cashiers, fast food workers and dish washers. “AI will increasingly replace repetitive jobs, not just for blue-collar work, but a lot of white-collar work,” says Lee in the upcoming episode. “Chauffeurs, truck drivers, anyone who does driving for a living; their jobs will be disrupted more in the 15-25 year time frame”.

So there is technology that could potentially remove almost 50% of the jobs people currently have. What could possibly go wrong with that? If George Orwell was alive today he'd be writing a new best seller based on this shit.

I don't see how any benefits AI brings to society can outweigh 50% of the world's population being put out of work pretty much overnight. That's the sort of thing that could bring down civilisations I reckon, a new world order type situation.

If you think back to the 80s when ATMs started to appear, people said banks would close. And most of them did.

Now wechat pay etc are making ATMs redundant.

Without a doubt, we are heading towards an existance where universal basic income will be a must.

Inflation is supposed to control fiat currency. It fails. I am not keen on the gold standard, but I am all for finite currency. The problem is, when Bezos has it all there will be none left for me to buy beer with. We will be paid in Amazon tokens.

helicoptor money does not work though, when you give money to a specific group all the prices rise and the money is worthless and you have to do the same damn thing again. I wish it would work, but every time it ends up a failure.

Of course, there is always the option of being an AI designer. Or an automation engineer, technician, electriction, toolmaker etc. You know.. those old trades that were dismissed in the western post industrial world as useless when compared to degrees in grography and ancient spanish history.

A:Wow, you really found that nitpicky talking point that elevates the fossil fuel industry to the same level as the interests of humanity. Isn't it all just a "liberal" scam, if you don't look too closely at the absence of logic? "Yes, it must be. My masters are hinting that that's what I should believe!"

You've made it clear you are consciously ignoring the pollution and global warming. Since your handlers, the conservative establishment whose dismantling of the carbon credit system and environmental destruction you choose to ignore, have made it clear you should bark in this direction, you are eager to please!

Such an admirably domesticated, dependable, subservient human. I'm sure your handlers will throw you a bone while they bring home the bacon for themselves. You're so obedient, you deserve a doggie cookie! Who's a good boy? You are! Yes, you are. U-S-A! Woof woof woof! -- coineineagh
