Q: American Expats in China featured in This American Life

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/467/americans-in-china

One hour of stories from American expats in China.  The show is American, but I believe any Westerner can relate.

Have you listened?  What did you think?

Actually I have discussed this many times with my bf.

He is American, he has hosted a lot of events. Many Chinese companies hire foreigner just to make them look good, it's a "face" thing.  They are not strong, confident enough. That's why they do that.

I agree the man on the show, he said American families, they hug and kiss each other, but not in China.  I can't say I've never hugged my dad, but I forgot since when we stopped doing that...

Still listening, will post more later.

wow, I thought some Chinese only dislike Japanese.

I feel sorry about that American dude, his best friend for ten years . wow... that hurts.

So I found this link about why people hate America, it's interesting.

That's why I don't talk politics with other people.

I frankly really can't see this dorm room socialist getting better than a C- after submitting this to his freshman composition class. He's more interested in engaging in polemics than in constructing and supporting a thesis. I mean, you can't  be critical of US for pursuing a interventionist military policy in the first half of the essay, then turn about and lambaste them for pursuing an isolationist policy in the second. And honestly, making the US somehow complicit in the holocaust for not sending enough divisions to Europe is more than a little offensive to me both as a US citizen and as somebody who lost family during the holocaust.

I listened to this yesterday and thought it was very good. I tried to listen to Kuo's podcast today but was unable to get to his website. I hope that its just my internet acting up, because I'd be interested to hear more about what he has to say as the English Language rep for Baidu.com
