Q: And you thought Trump....

Well it looks like D Trashy is getting the job done.
Me like many others laughed loudly when the Yanks voted him in.... (still giggle at the look on the Democrats faces)
However in light of the economic figures I have found some envy.

The repatriation of funds hidden oversees by corporations will kick in soon for capital investments, and reducing the labor pool with tough immigration, this party is just getting started, enjoy the ride.

The next bullet would be to allow student debt loans to bankrupt and getting the younger generation in position to buy homes and lower the regulations on home building.

The next change for the better is watching the Chinese squirm and bitch about not having America as the sucker for all of their products and now they have to compete and be nice and get customers from around the world and play fair, it's going to be fun watching these arrogant rich folks play nice and come off their high horse and compete fairly like the rest of the world does every day.

I am doubting the figures have much to do with the trade war. It would take more than a few fiscal quarters to see the effects of Trumps foriegn policy.

Stiggs:

I read that the numbers actually were boosted by the trade war, but not necessarily in a good way.

Exporters - like the soybean farmers - rushed to get rid of their stock before the tariffs kicked in. This accounted for 26% of the economy's improvment over the last quarter.

That would be a one off thing though.

The Whitehouse was approached for comment about Trump's claims but as of yet have nothing to say. If he had something new or there was something in it you'd think it would be on the front page of every newspaper in the world by now. Or weeks ago.

I know nothing about politics, just a fascinated bystander here but I think Trump is panicking and trying desperately to get the investigation stopped. People around him are going down, the case against him is looking more and more convincing and now his shady lawyer is coming out backing up the collusion thing and making noises like he wants to spill his guts.

If I was going to put money on this it would be on Trump having colluded with the Russians and probably being manipulated by them now.

I like Trump's policies with China (not going far enough) and his policy with illegals but you're ignoring reality.

1. He inherited a strong economy.

2. The Global economy is strong, normal after an Economic crisis

3. Every other country that has good economic times payoff their debt. America is running a bigger defideit than ever thanks to Trump's tax plan. I have 20k available on my credit cards. Can I spend it all in 3 months and then say wow my financial situation was great

4 There were surges in sales due to looming tariffs.

Don't pop the cork just yet.

your confusing a day away from Washington as a day from work, he hates the White House, he never plays golf with the same people on a golf course, no cameras, no phones, no tapes, he has meetings in Florida and New York all the time. Perhaps he wants people to think he is lazy or not working to sneak things through, sort of like Rope-a-Dope. Also getting things done and growing an economy that was said to be " a new norm of 1.4 percent growth and 7 percent unemployment and America was just like every other country", by his predecessor and doing it a way that looks lazy and easy just make the former leaders of both parties look more incompetent. Unlike his predecessor, who would do anything possible to avoid the dreadful Oval Office and putting in a full day’s work, Trump actually uses the golf course as an extension of the workplace. Key lawmakers and those important to getting things done are kept virtual captive for 3-4 hours. During that time they are subjected to a non-stop charm offensive that helps Trump get his way.

As a business owner let me tell you that being productive has nothing to do with how many hours one works but with what one achieves during that time. If Trump can do more in 254 days than what Obama did in 339 days then he is being productive. If you can do more working 10h a week than your neighbor does in a full 40h of sitting at their desk then you have the upper hand. I personally work 3 days a week but I work smart and efficiently.

Trump-a's 'titty-tatty':

https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/patrick-goodenough/chinese-communis...

Chinese Communist Newspaper: Stationing US Marines at Mission in Taiwan Would Amount to ‘Invasion’

(CNSNews.com) – A Chinese Communist Party organ has reacted sharply to unconfirmed reports that U.S. Marines may be stationed at Washington’s de facto diplomatic mission in Taiwan, charging that any such move would amount to “invasion” of Chinese territory.

Taiwanese media outlets reported at the weekend that a small contingent of Marines will be posted at the newly-dedicated American Institute in Taiwan compound, which is due to begin operating formally in the fall.

The U.S. switched recognition to the communist government in Beijing in 1979. In the absence of normal ties the AIT fulfils the functions of an embassy in Taipei, while the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office is the equivalent facility in the U.S.

Citing “sources familiar with the matter,” the Taipei Times said the stationing of Marines at the AIT “could be considered a representation of how much the U.S. values its relationship with Taiwan.”

Taiwan’s presidential office declined to comment, calling AIT’s security arrangements an internal affair.

U.S. Marine Security Guards have been based at U.S. diplomatic missions around the world since the end of World War II.

There has been no official confirmation that Marines will indeed be stationed at the new $250 million AIT compound which replaces premises – formerly the headquarters of the U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group – that have housed the AIT since the diplomatic relationship changed in 1979.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency quoted an AIT official as saying, “As is the practice at our current location, a small number of American personnel detailed to AIT along with a larger number of locally-hired employees will provide security for the new office building in cooperation with the local authorities.”

The official did not elaborate on the “American personnel.” Queries sent to the AIT brought no response by press time.

Despite the uncertainty, the report raised hackles in Beijing, where the government regards Taiwan as a rebellious province and expects the international community to fall in line with its stance on the matter.

“Only U.S. embassies and consulates are guarded by Marines,” the Communist Party newspaper Global Times said in an editorial. “Posting U.S. Marines to the AIT would mean a public U.S. declaration that the AIT is equivalent to a U.S. embassy or consulate instead of a non-governmental institution.”

The paper warned that should uniformed Marines be based at the AIT, Beijing would view the move “as a severe subversion of the one-China policy or even an invasion of the U.S. military of Chinese soil.”

The AIT, it said, would be seen as “a primary stronghold for the U.S. invasion of China.”

The paper said that “pro-independence activists” in Taiwan are hopeful that Marines will be deployed, in order to strengthen their argument that the AIT is no different from other U.S. diplomatic missions.

Taiwan’s “separatists” had suffered a number of setbacks recently due to Beijing’s actions – or as Global Times described them, “multiple strikes from the Chinese mainland” – and so were looking for a morale boost, it said.

The editorial said that if Marines are stationed at the AIT, the U.S. would be faced with Chinese “countermeasures.” It did not elaborate, but did say that the facility “would become the most insecure place in Taiwan and a blasting fuse for clashes.”

Taiwan, a flourishing democracy of 23 million people, has weathered a Chinese campaign to deny it international recognition for decades. Wielding its diplomatic and economic clout, Beijing has put pressure on governments, businesses and international organizations to comply.

Only a small group of countries, currently down to 18, retain diplomatic relations with Taiwan, and they are in turn denied recognition by Beijing.

Recent Chinese measures aimed at restricting Taiwan’s diplomatic space included demands that U.S. and other airlines amend online customer information that portrays Taiwan as a separate country. The carriers complied.

Chinese pressure also led to the recent decision by the East Asian Olympic Committee to reported last week.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen, a member of the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party, told a visiting politician on Monday that her country would “never back down under pressure” from China, but would “continue to play a constructive role in maintaining regional peace and stability and work with like-minded countries and international organizations to defend shared values.”

Taiwan enjoys strong support in the U.S. Congress. In the same year the Carter administration cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan in favor of the mainland government in Beijing, Congress passed the Taiwan Relations Act, which commits the U.S. to protect the island from unprovoked aggression and to provide it with military assistance.

ambivalentmace:

Trump will put Marines there, squeeze the duties, move the factories, cut the transfer of intellectual property, like I said 2 years ago, this is personal. China screwed Trump many times in the last decade and this is payback, has nothing to do with voters or Americans. My personal experience was I was very upset that marines were not at the American embassy in Beijing and I had to do deal with Chinese, this never happens in Africa, I have no objection to Chinese soldiers at the embassy in New York, they said it was cost savings, bullshit.

Wtf would we want from China, cheap labor, sorry too many people be deported and India can make it cheaper, already, food, you import a lot of our food already, technology, sorry next, try again, resources, you mean poison water and unsafe food, nada, next. Come on, you can think of something, oil perhaps, no you import more than we did 5 years ago and now we export oil, you want to buy some natural gas, we got plenty, OH oH i got it, our fish, you mean the fish that will have problems from Fukishima for the next century, thanks but no thanks, our computers, you mean copies of xp and no toilet paper to wipe the pollution off the screen.

So actually why would America want to invade China? To wipe out our debt to them, it's less than 6 percent of the debt we owe now, peanuts, just print money and let inflation do the job.

So, they want to invade a democracy and enslave the peoplesad. I wonder what Trump will do? Maybe reverse the 1979 bill on recognizing a dictatorship over a democracy? The world will get interesting.

A:They're saying you should be in China already because entering China is pretty much impossible at the moment due to covid restrictions. This means schools can only recruit from people already in the country. Also, unless you have dual citizenship you probably wouldn't meet the visa requirements to teach (teach English that is, maybe you could teach other subjects, I don't know) in China. They have a native speaker requirement that means only people from certain countries will be accepted. The second point will probably get this post downvoted, any time you mention the native speaker requirement it brings out one or two angry thumbs - they don't seem to understand nobody on this forum makes the rules..... Anyway, my advice to you would be to look elsewhere. Between China's tough visa requirements and their even tougher covid measures it's pretty much impossible to go there now to teach. The good news is that other countries are dropping their covid restrictions and opening up again so there are probably still opportunities available to you. Good luck. -- Stiggs
