Q: Anyone in Wuxi?

I'm curious if this 3 year old article on echinacities is still applicable about places to eat in Wuxi: http://www.echinacities.com/Wuxi/city-guide/Finding-Familiar-Flavours-Western-Restaurants-in-Wuxi

Hopefully the more recently published article about expat bars is reliable: http://www.echinacities.com/Wuxi/city-guide/Drown-the-Night-Away-5-Popular-Expat-Bars-in-Wuxi

Me and the gf are planning on headed there for this upcoming May 1st holiday.  I tried using a similar article from echinacities when we went to Suzhou last year, and more than half the places were shut down or relocated or who knows what.  I'd appreciate any input on where to eat, drink, and generally be merry in Wuxi wink

Wuxi for a holiday? Is there like a famous mountain or something I havent heard of? Why would you go to wuxi?

Anyways ive never been but your right about trusting old articles on this site. I got the same thing when i went to Dalian.

Try wuxilife.com probably more current.

It's the girlfriend's idea.  She said something about a big lake, not that I really care that much lol.  I just drive the car, pay for the hotel, pay for the meals, etc.  I'm just happy to go up a tier or 2 in city level and amenities for a day or three angel

I've been to Wuxi several times, most recently about 2 months ago.  Every time I go, I see great change.  It is a city in the midst of upheaval and development.  I would not be surprised if most of those places in the article were gone or moved.

cooter:

Here's hoping the upheaval and development aren't right outside our hotel window angry

Red Lion, Blue Bar and The Blue Marlin I know. All open, all cool IMHO. When you go to the Red Lion, say 'hey' to Les and Stu, the Aussie owners. Good people. RL is across the street from the front entrance to Hotel Nikko.

I can't say anything either way about Jason's cuz I never been there.

Thanks a lot bill!  I've been to a Blue Marlin before in Suzhou....guessing it's the same.  Red Lion sounds awesome.  I'll let ya know about the others if I can find them angel

Red Lion is a good shout, nice western feel, also went to Taihu lake to see the big Buddha there, it was pricey but I personally really enjoyed it, it was very peaceful there. I don't live in Wuxi, but I enjoy going there for a day or two every now and then, I like the feel of the city. heart
