Q: "Beats by Dre" Headphones: Real or Fake?
Every day, I see a ton of people (Chinese and foreign alike) walking around with their "Beats by Dre" headphones/earbuds out. I've seen this in several major cities across China.
I get that it's one of the new status symbols here, but I also have a hard time believing that so many people can afford such an expensive accessory (and a crappy one at that http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/beats-pro-high-performance/4852-7877_...). Is there a major fake market for these in China that I don't know about, or do people just not know how to spend their money properly?
Yes, there is a big market for fake "beats" headphones. I see them everywhere in Shanghai. Like anything you buy in China, carefully check them before you buy. Including connecting them to your phone or MP3 player and listening to the sound quality.
I saw even some street wendor, front of Raffles city in Shanghai, who sell the side cover with "b" for the big ones rphones. It looks not bad, but u know now, than any earphones similar style can be upgraded to the Dr.Dre Beats so easily for 20rmb maybe ?
I buy them in Shenzhen all the time for myself and for gifts back home. I get them at a certain shop in the shopping district of Lohou. I believe they are real but possibly factory seconds snuck out the back door with small defects. Can't beat the price....150 for the earbud ones and they sound great. The same ones are $100 at least back home.
Fake, you can find similar earphones around the street,The price is about 10RMB.
You can get them in HK..........real but a bit pricey for a trip
the original ones cost 3000RMB, then Chinese first coppy may cost around 1500RMb because its just similar to the original, then the second copy comes with a more lower price and so on and so on. if you go to Baoshan lu market in shanghai, you are going to encounter all types of craps ever there, all both first-hand and second hand included, most of the articles in that market are fake i.e Chinese first or second copy of the original one.yet they are good and durable according to the copy you bought. if you buy the second first or second copy, the you are likely to enjoy it but if you buy a third and so copies then it will last only for a short period of time.
go to wujiaochang also in shanghai, that market only sells original first copies but quite expensive.
how to get to baoshan lu, take line 10 metro and alight at hailun road, then change to metro line four and alight at the next station which is baoshan lu and ask anyone there where is the market located
Just check the quality first before you buy. The real ones are expensive. There is a shop at my place they fake ones cost 150.
well the sets that go for 200rmb are fake, you can tell by looking at the packaging, if you look at the pic of dre its not very good and its very dark cant see his shoulders, but on the real box the colours are very clear, you can find a few other soughtle differences and the sound isnt as good
I bought one pair, Beats Solo with my HTC ONE X, was called HTC DELUXE Package. First time i was thinking they were fake ones, but after i try to register and i was surprised to find that they were real.
you can try to see if they are real here, at this website

My girlfriend bought me real ones for Christma. They're amazing. I even run with them now.
I found (obviously) fake Beats for 40RMB in a small shop.
It's possible they did not sell many and originals are being wholesaled out to the secondary market.
Personally, Skull Candy FTW!!

Then again, it's likely that seconds go out the back door at bargain prices and, in an unprecedented chain of events, find their way to various Chinese retailers.
