Social Credit System: Facial Recognition Cameras Monitor Chinese Students' Behavior In Class

A university in China has installed facial recognition cameras in classrooms that monitor students’ behavior such as nodding off or playing with their cellphones.

China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu Province, is piloting the system in two classrooms and eventually plans to install it in every classroom.

Under China’s Orwellian social credit system, all such systems are eventually planned to be centralized and linked to each citizen’s individual credit score, resulting in rewards and punishments for good and bad behavior.

As we reported last month, the Chinese government bragged about preventing 2.5 million “discredited entities” from purchasing plane tickets and 90,000 people from buying high speed train tickets in the month of July alone.

The recent phenomenon of conservatives and dissidents being prevented from using paid services and having their bank accounts closed for their political opinions is a chilling reflection of how a similar system is being rolled out in the west.

Who will monitor foreign teachers? Duh. The students already do that. At least at college level.

I am being monitored by the assistant teachers, all grades I teach. I see them taking notes on anything I do, how I do and they report to the leader. I understand this is the way teachers must report on each other. Except, I was not told about it, nor asked for report on anyone, either. Now, there are the cameras, huge ones, as just as those on the traffic ways, except the taking photos flashing light you see at any corner of the streets.

Sometimes, students are allowed with their phones in the classroom. They keep it under the desks or anywhere else and take a record of my teaching style and method. They say it is for memory for themselves. Duh! I know that, because, one day, they simply took off the desks their telephones, just by the time the jingle bell "you teachers work so hard" ends the teaching time. I was like "what on Earth was that it?" Then they came to take pictures of me and selfies with me.

Now, if you appreciate your students and show them the respect for their intelligence, they will always speak good of you at school and at home.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
