Q: Can I work in a new company with a Z visa that my last employer didn't cancel it?

Hi guys, I have another question. My last employer didn,t cancel my Z visa, and I am going to start working in a new company ( english school) in the near future. They want to cancel my last Z Visa and give me a new one。 Is it posible to work with the Z visa of the last employer?, Which the benefits and inconvenients of working with a Z visa of your last employer?  Thank you again

Z visa must get changed to Residence permit in 30 days after you entered China.

Your last employer didn't cancel your Residence permit and your Foreign Expert Certificate.

You must cancel FEC at Foreign Expert Bureau, because it is tied up with your last School. Your new employer will apply for new FEC.

New employer will also extend your Residence permit in 30 days after you resigned from your last employer.
For extending Residence permit and new FEC, you will need Release letter from your last employer.

the sooner you get a new z visa the better and the release letter, working under the old one and nobody remembers you to give a release letter later at the old school,  turnover is high in teaching english.

Legally, the answer is no.

A Z Visa is sponsored by the company hiring you.  And that Z Visa allows you to work ONLY for the company that sponsored it.

If you wanted to work for another company, you would need to get a whole new Z Visa.

Things could have changed during the two years I've been away from China, but generally Z visas are only 30 days in length.  Once you arrive at your school, they should get you a worker's permit and a residence permit.  The residence permit is usually a year in length or at least the length of your contract (or longer in some circumstances).  It allows you to work only at that school and to enter and exit the country without getting new visas. Your new school should be working on getting you new documentation before your current one expires, thus no need to leave the country and come back a couple days later with a "tourist visa".

Definitely not, you will be overstaying and illegally working for an employer which you have no valid visa/work permit for if you do not cancel your previous z-visa. You will be fined and kicked out of china. This exact thing happened to me my first year in China.
