What are your thoughts on skinning animals alive? Is it a culture thing? Really?

Yes, it is a culture thing.
Sympathy (for people, let alone animals) is sneered at in China. My girlfriend got upset about turtles being boiled alive in a restaurant, and her family laughed at her and called her a simpleton. Her mother frequently laments about how stupid her daughter is for showing empathy.
Instead of finding positive things on which to base self-worth, Chinese people rely on their relative position above other humans or animals. Cruelty like this enforces their superiority (just like rich people running over poor people and laughing at them, chengguan stamping on street peddlars' heads, etc.).

I don't approve of using animal skins period, unless it be skins from animals we've farmed for their meat, and even when we do that they should be killed as painlessly as possible. How could skinning anything alive possibly ever be justified? Perhaps those who think it is okay should 'volunteer' to prove how beneficial it is by being skinned themselves?
i really don't care. i see what people have to go through in china everyday. everyday it is another story of rape, having to bribe the school, being forced to marry sb they don't like, being forced to stay with an abusive husband, whatever. these are people, fix the problems of the people first. stop forcing people to live like animals first.
i know, i'm a racist for pointing this out.

The Chinese people choose to tolerate the above mentioned (well, not the rape)... the animals don't have that choice. Regardless of how bad a situation, a human always can change it... they're just too afraid too.
Besides which, skinning an animal alive is just blatant (insane) sadism... NO human should have that level of ignorance.

exactly how do they choose to?if they try to communicate to each other in order to organize they get arrested. their cells , internet are closely monitored. they do not vote for their leaders. so how is it their choice?

i was thinking in the greater scheme of things. but if a woman decides not to follow her family's wishes , they may choose to use the hukou to ruin her life. they could cut her off . this is a big deal in china, chinese society is designed so that people are dependent on their family. example: graduates earn so little so that they would be reliant on their families.
My thoughts are quite simple - skin alive the skinners. In public.
The other day, in my home country the news had a story about a single animal being mistreated on a farm. Didn't read the actual story, but some of the discussion that sprung from it lead a friend of mine to write this on a media blocked in China. I put this in contrast to what Crimo writes.

Behind this attitude is likely to hide an idea that empathy and love are finite things that should be zealously cherished and should only be used in the most important and most worthy of situations.
I am of a different opinion.I think that the more you use your empathy, the better you will be to relate empathetic.I will not fail to act in abject to animal cruelty wherever it may occur, for fear of not having empathic capacity remaining. I can easily work for socially marginalized rights in places where rights are plenty, although I know and can relate to, that there are people in far greater distress in other places on earth.
I am capable of relating to and acting on both near and distant issues and will at all times help a drowning man or a mouse in the local pond ... even if a tsunami has washed over land elsewhere."

Seems almost as bad as that incident in the states a few years back. There was an activist just like you showing videos of animals being tortured before they were slaughtered. They'd hang up cows and whip it and then cut its throat. It is equally as bad. I still don't think many people will care. They will take notice just like you have, but in the end what you can't see for yourself will leave your mind when you decide to purchase the goods.

When we were kids on the farm, we used to kill a cow now and then for meat, tan and sell the hide, and use the guts for dog food. Every part of the animal got used,
We would call the cow down by name, pat it and give it a handful of hay to munch on, before whipping out the .22 and putting a bullet through its head. It was quick, as painless as possible, and it died happy.
Even though it was for necessity, it was always a little jarring. The Chinese, on the other hand, seem to enjoy inflicting pain or distress on those they perceive as weaker or lower in the evolutionary scale - which is just about everybody and everything.
