Q: did your school get a computer attack?

so Monday morning, the school internet is down and all the teachers are complaining except the international department foreign teachers, even though we are all own the same network. Our department uses windows 10 with updates and the rest of the school still uses XP from the last century.

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/05/17/us-should-take-some-blame-for-massive-cyberattack-chinese-media-says.htm

Never mind that we torrented a free copy of windows 10 because the school is too cheap to pay for it, it is  the americans fault our systems are down. nothing to do with copy-write or being cheap, yeah right.

nobody rights code for xp anymore and 360 did not copy the update to fight it in time to save China from the problem but micro soft had the update to stop this in March.

Hell, even Russia uses legal updates and did not get hit, or so they say, but China will the high tech super power of the world by 2040 according to the CCP.

1. Executuve Summary

Israel-based “Cyber Warfare” vendor NSO Group produces and sells a mobile phone spyware suite called Pegasus. To monitor a target, a government operator of Pegasus must convince the target to click on a specially crafted exploit link, which, when clicked, delivers a chain of zero-day exploits to penetrate security features on the phone and installs Pegasus without the user’s knowledge or permission. Once the phone is exploited and Pegasus is installed, it begins contacting the operator’s command and control (C&C) servers to receive and execute operators’ commands, and send back the target’s private data, including passwords, contact lists, calendar events, text messages, and live voice calls from popular mobile messaging apps. The operator can even turn on the phone’s camera and microphone to capture activity in the phone’s vicinity.

Sorry ambi, but you are into an 'old-news' .

I couldn't find title I was reading last week on the same subject by passing 4th page at 'Zero'. That's 'old' by all parameters.

Today-o:

"It's Much Bigger Than WannaCry": New Stealthy Cyberattack Could Dwarf Last Week's Global Worm Epidemic

Another large-scale, stealthy cyberattack is underway on a scale that could dwarf last week's assault on computers worldwide, a global cybersecurity firm told AFP on Wednesday. Rather than freeze files demanding a ransom, Adylkuzz uses infected computers to mine virtual currency..."As it is silent and doesn't trouble the user, the Adylkuzz attack is much more profitable for the cyber criminals."

Yes, but thankfully we have an amazing team of I.T. guys from Taiwan (and some tech-savvy teachers).

We were able to sandbox it and unmap shared drives before it spread.
It's funny to think about.
You can have all the cracked software in the world, but it'll be worthless if you don't pay a good I.T. to keep it optimal.

WannaCry Ransomware Attack Linked To China, Not Russia Or North Korea

New analysis suggests Chinese-speaking criminals may have been behind the WannaCry ransomware that affected thousands of organisations worldwide.

Researchers from Flashpoint looked at the language used in the ransom notice.

They said the use of proper grammar and punctuation in only the Chinese versions indicated the writer was "native or at least fluent" in Chinese.

The translated versions of the ransom notice appeared to be mostly "machine translated".

The WannaCry ransom note could be displayed in 28 different languages, but only the Chinese and English versions appeared to have been written by humans.

The English text also used some unusual phrases such as: "But you have not so enough time".

A:I'd say no, you don't need working permit to work for Chinese Co. remotely, i.e. by not residing in China.Best advice on that you'll get from your employer. https://www.china-briefing.com/news/china-foreigners-work-permit-application-and-renewal-recent-changes/ See this part: However, because a valid resident permit is one of the primary requirements for the renewal of a work permit, without a valid residence permit, expatriates stranded outside China may not be able to renew their work permits anymore. ... or in other words, if you don't reside in China, work permit is also not required. Some more details about Work visa requirements .. https://www.hongdaservice.com/blog/china-work-visa-requirements-what-you-may-not-know -- icnif77
