for me a disadvantage is that I dont think I can go home anymore, its a catch 22 type situation.this is my 18th year in China Iam 51 years old and if I went home the cost of living and trying to find a job and the cost of getting set up again is very expencive.job wise i dont know what i would do if I went back home.

I have been in China to long, the good thing is I have a family here.

One of the clearest disadvantages of living in China is the accessibility and speed of the Internet, but of which are lacking here.

Everyone knows this is the case, but in my own life it really causes more frequent frustration than just about anything else.

And smoked ribs, jasonwon. Back in Montana, 'Merica, Sandy would make the best smoked ribs you could find in the whole state! She would use the 3-2-1 method while we would make a shooting contest using PBR cans we'd down as targets. I was quite the marksman with Laura, my beloved .22 calibre rifle! The winner would be able to be the first to taste Sandy's smoked ribs. She'd use hickory to give it a strong distinctive flavour. Whenever i'd win, I would do the Happy Piggy Spinning Piggy dance before taking a bite, to make them dribble at the sight of Sandy's smoked ribs. I really miss them and I wish one day, I'll be able to show that corner of paradise to my Chinese girlfriend!

How about having to travel by train. There are so many people. I really can't stand how crowded the trains can get and how difficult it is to buy tickets during holidays!

Too many disadvantages, however, still much better than most places on Earth at present.

Pollution, dangerous food, absence of trees, low income, cultural ignorance, crappy apartments, etc etc etc etc etc...

but, easily outweighed by all the good stuff...like 2 yuan subway passes, cheap cost of living and...uhm...I'll get back to you on that one

Pollution, lousy drivers, too many crowds. The health care system is questionable. But hey, it's probably a safer place to live than the good ol US of A. China does have it's fair share of nitwits and retards. but remember, for every malcontent in Canada there would be 39 in China because China has 39 times as many people as Canada. Like any place on earth; if you have money, then you do what you want. This question is as good now as it was 7 years ago. I have been here for 11 years.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
