Q: Do they have a lot of firework mishaps in China during the spring festival?

Is it common to get these mishaps during the Spring Festival since they do set off fireworks daily for almost a week or so. How common is it for these mishaps to occur and how would the hospitals handle so many mishaps if there were numerous mishaps happening daily?

Yes,there are indeed many firework mishaps in China among the Spring Festival, the fire that burnt the CCTV new building in 2009 is  the very proof.Chinese  are also aware of the danger,so they will be more careful among Spring Festival. In addition,i don't think there would be so many mishaps  happening daily that hospitals can't deal with.

Guy down the street blew his thumb off a few days ago. He was holding a Roman Candle in his hand the way the directions on the side say you aren't supposed to. i really want to feel bad for him but I just can't.

I saw an appartment's balcony across the street catch on fire a few years ago, but the guards (they were the ones playing with fireworks) quickly showed up with fire extinguishers and took care of it. To be honest, I was laughing all along.

I read on the news that a guy was killed by fireworks in Beijing over the holidays. I think deaths and injuries can't be avoided during the Spring Festival, since kids of any age can just blow up stuff at just about any street corner or estate, many times completely unsupervised by adults. I did see a news broadcast on the subway today that injuries have gone down significantly this year. What I'd be more interested in is the conditions of workers in these firework factories and how significantly their life expectancy is shortened by dealing with the toxic fumes and chemicals used to make these explosives. That's something no-one ever seems to pay attention to.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
