Q: Do you listen to the radio in China? Any good stations?

I used to like listening to the radio before going to bed but since moving to China the only radio I have been exposed to is the cross-talk station taxi drivers love to listen to. Are there any good stations here worth listening to? And any English ones?

Sometimes, I listen to radio stations over ITunes. There's a 'million' stations, and reception depend on the Internet connection.

My favorite stations are 'Feeling Floyd' and 'pinkfloydtheguz' at 'Classic Rock'.

I too, always listen Chinese stations (with 'never ending' monologues in Chinese) in the cabs

I've once in a while tried scanning the radio channels with my phone. In Zhuhai I have only found talk radio, people babbling and commercials. No music. Talk radio is OK, but not in a language I don't understand. ("buuuhuuu why don't you learn") I am sure there must be better choice of radio than what we have here in Zhuhai.

I have an ever increasing list of podcasts that I use to block out the noise when I am outside. Amongst them some of them are China relevant. "China History Podcast", "Sinica Podcast"

Does all taxi drivers listen to cross talk radio just like all bus drivers listen to crazy up beat copy pop ?

There is one station I used to listen to: Beijing Hit fm. They have most of the latest hits (US hits at least).

I always listen to local radio when driving around. A good English station in Guangzhou is FM88.5, its an English station. Once a week or so it airs American top 40 live.

I was also tired of the noise and my music collection become boring. While untouched with modern music trends, and your reminder of radios ... I got some apps into my phone and I can listen to streams from my home :-) broken heart

dongguan, guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing - 88.5 hit FM, they play only western music with the odd exception here and there. Saturday morning is US top 40. I listen to this station when driving.

All you need to do is tune into this.... www.abc.net.au/radio

There's all kind of stuff available here, including podcasts.

In fact, I'm doing it right now!  Got the 'Country Hour' from Western Australia filling me with local culture.
