I'm convinced, they would never cheat! Me!angel

I'd rather walk, if distance is shorter than 2km.

I haven't seen what I'd call cheating. But we often take taxis on the same distance, it's about 20RMB, but can vary 2-3RMB (this is not due to traffic lights)
That is more than 10%. hmmmmm, 10% extra on an annual cabbie income.... THOSE BASTARDS

usually no cheating but they will take long distance roads to skip traffic jams. depends on the city of course.

Shanghai's cabs really do kick up tabs really fast.  They probably count the time stopped in traffic which makes it seem like its ticking up very quickly. Seems different cities are changing their cab fare tabulation methods.  Maybe you can only take cabs when necessary.

expatlife26:

yeah of course the meter runs up when you're stuck in traffic. It's fair enough, otherwise they could get stiffed with a minimum fare for a few KM involving a 4hr traffic jam.

It's the same in NYC and probably most other cab friendly cities in the US

jetfire9000:

I don't think it is ridiculous, but I am trying to point out that what is "Of course" for cabs in Shanghai is not necessarily the case for other cities. The question specifically mentioned Shanghai.

Nanjing only just started doing this.  I used to absolutely revel in taking cheap cabs.  We now have 2 more expensive versions of cabs here , and plus we seem to be counting the time stopped in traffic.   Obviously if you go to smaller cities, they don't do this yet. Yangzhou cabs are super cheap.  And the cheapest cab fare to date was what I had in Xi Ning.

A:1. Apply at FindJobz, top L corner of this screen! 2. Have a look over the Internet with "Requirements for an English teaching job in China" in search for more details. You could also look at the guidance titled "How to use an Internet, search engines in particular ..." for more in-dept knowledge. 3. As you can see from no. 2,, main requirement for an ET job in China is holding of a native English passport (UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and S. Africa), no different than anywhere else in the world. 4. Non-English native passport holders qualify for an ET job in China only if they hold BA degree completed in the native English country. However, most recruiters and hiring managers in China aren't aware of that exemption, so if you hold a degree from one or two native English countries, I suggest you include that into Introduction letter. Good lucky! P.S.Application for the NASA's Moon-to-Mars Program at the Cape Canaveral is less stringent than applying for an ET job as a non-native Englisher ...That of course, is an opinion of a non-English native teacher with lengthy English teaching experience in several different countries.  -- icnif77
