A lot of the job ads I've seen recently only want native English speakers. This seems to be a common trend.
Do you think English a more important skill than Chinese for foreigners working in China these days?

Unfortunately yes. I find that even though I speak fluent Chinese I have hardly ever used it at work, or has it been required when looking for a job
Depends what kind of job you want. If you're happy being an English teacher then you don't really need to be speaking much, if any, Chinese. On the other hand if you want to be a translator then obviously you need Chinese. The problem is possibly that the majority of jobs for foreigners in China at present are English teaching ones, but that doesn't mean if you speak Chinese its useless. d0mdeluxe, I don't know what job you have but your wasting your talent. You claim to speak fluent Chinese and yet you don't use it? I hope the money's good. I refuse to take a job that doesn't require me to use Chinese, otherwise I wasted a whole lot of time and money on my degree. Of course if the money was really good......
