Q: Fire crackers, should they be banned??

Fire crackers, damn noisy and dangerous.

Vietnam like China celebrates the Lunar New Year at the same time.

Fire crackers are banned in Vietnam and if people are caught using them, they could face a ten year prison sentence.

Should they be banned throughout China and people punished for using them??

since china invented gunpowder , i dont thing a ban would ever happen, some restrictions on what days and time of the day probably.

i am just amazed how little chinese pay attention to news here, every year some kid dies when they blow up fireworks inside or around a manhole comer on the street and the cover blows off and kills a child.

then it happens the next year and the next.

It cannot be banned right away, maybe regulated first then reeducation of the people of its disadvantages to human health and environment.  I agree with ambivalentmace that there should be some restriction on as to when and where they can use those fireworks.

May I shoot a Q: Is there any statistics about firecracker related accidents here in China?

Firecrackers? Meh, don't care (much).

However, those REALLY loud bangers? I would make it law so that if the fuse is lit after midnight on any day apart from Chinese New Year's eve (and maybe New Years day too) the banger explodes within 1 microsecond of being lit in the direction of the fuse! devil Last night was my first full nights sleep since the evening of 8th!

No, I don't think so. And even if people wanted it banned in China that won't happen. Afterall, it was chinese people who made those things. What they could do is have a law to state which hours of the night to stop the fireworks. So let's say 12 am or 1 am to 8 am etc., If they get caught using fireworks during this time then they should punish them for public disturbance since that's the time most people are usually off to bed.

No,it's a part of the culture.I think it would never be banned in China though some cities may limit people to play fire crackers only in some specified places for safety considerations.

Banning firecrackers would be devastating to China, they account for at least 140% of GDP.

In China yes.   No need for them to shoot them off every weekend!   Also be nice if they banned the people who pass out gym and house flyers.,   the people sitting on their bikes honking their stupid horns on at the bus stations and metro stations, and the old women yelling fa pial, fa pial, fa pial

No they shouldn't be banned. Afterall it was the Chinese that invented the firecrackers. You wouldn't want to take that away from them now would you. It would be like taking the donuts away from the cops!!

It does not matter if they ban them anyway. Everyone ignores all signs and rules as it is. The no smoking rule is a joke. In some of the cake shops around here, they have no smoking signs on all the walls, then put ashtrays on the tables and ignore the people who sit under the signs smoking.
