Q: Getting a Z Visa in Ningbo without a degree

I successfully got a job with an English teaching school in Ningbo but my application for the work visa failed as I didn't have a degree (My highest level of education is a HND which is 2 years study at university). This was in February.

Before I talked to a guy who ran a school asking him about the visa. He said that he once knew a guy who got the working visa without a degree but couldnt recall the specifics on how exactly he is got it. I heard that Ningbo is the only city in China where it is almost impossible to get a working visa without a degree for a foreigner.

Now I'm back in Ningbo with a tourist visa and determined to stay. I have a girlfriend here (yeah). I went back to that guy and he agreed to hire me as a part time teacher but I just have to be careful about my employment status.

My question is, is there really no way to get a working visa without a degree in Ningbo?

I am doing distance learning trying to 'top up' my HND so after a year, I will have the degree.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Go online and buy a degree.  Or, talk to the school and have them photoshop you one.  You will be surprised at how easy it is to break the law here.

For the anal retentive: The above is against the law and not advisable under any circumstances.  It is also not possible, legally, to get an experts certificate in China without a college/university degree.  Unless, you are ready to inject hundreds of thousands of US dollars into the local economy, in which case they don't care if you are a talking baboon or not.

So... you don't have a degree (which is required) - do you have a TEFL qualification of any kind?? ANy teaching experience? ANYTHING AT ALL for which we could possibly recommend you actually taking away the jobs from the legitimate teachers who come here - and keeping our pay-rates down because of it?

(yes, I'm being anal... but it's a valid point, I think! Query - how do you feel about people staying illegally in your country?)

The ultimate answer to your question is - no (at least, as John said, not legally!)

You could, however, enrol into a university in Ningbo, which at least gives you the right to stay here - but not work. OTOH, since you  are determined to stay here with this girl, marry her! That would at least get you a 'spouse' visa... You could also get yourself a different job in a different field.

Xpat.John:

Of the many English teachers that I have met in China, about 80% either have no degree or experience at all. Schools will happily make up whatever documentation they are lacking just to have a foreign face on the payroll. I am not saying that ALL English teachers are this way, nor ALL schools will do blatantly illegal things like this. But from the people and schools I have talked to, this has been my experience.

What you are doing could get you into a heap of problems here.  Working without a Z visa could have you deported, and refused further opportunities to visit China if caught.

Search on Intenet for places that will sell you a fake college degree, and use that to get your Foreign Expert Certificate and WorkPermit until you cn finish your college studies nd get a real one.

Also, if you took the TEFL course, and got a degree, could use that for your FEC.  Does your employer has anby pull with the local PSB?.

Just be very careful, you are walking on quicksand !

Just to give you a heads up, when I got my foreign expert's license and residence permit in Ningbo, they wouldn't accept anything but the original university diploma.  Yeah, I had to rip that sucker out of the nice picture frame hanging on my wall back home, roll it up into a cardboard tube, and carry it with me on the flight over here.  Tried my best to substitute a photocopy, transcripts, the little wallet sized diploma they give you, etc....they weren't having it.

祝你好运...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
