Maybe try learning some english songs or recording yourself then playing it back till you sound the way you want.

The speed of one's speech and the actual tone is dependant on the topic, the speaker, the opinion being expressed and a host of other variables so really, don't give it too much thought.

On the other hand, for starters, you could use some basic grammar rules to improve your writing. It all helps.

It is all about the lips and the placement of the tongue look at the lips you will learn.

This the best way to learn how to make sounds.

Have you ever met someone with a speech disorder or someone who is deaf they always teach them to look at the lips and the tongue how do you think people can read lips? Improving your knowledge of Engish, whether it is either talking, writing of whatever, requires two things, and I will share them with you.

1.-  Practice, practice, practice and more practice.  The more you practice it, the better results you will get.

2.- Develop a "tougher skin", forget about "face", and never be afraid or bashfull of mistakes.  Always remember, even those that are "native English speakers" also make mistakes sometimes.

And like others have told you before, listen to songs, try some DVD of English TV shows like "Friends" for example, read books, magazines, newspapers, etc to increase vocabulary.  Speed will come with practice, and many other things also.

In reagrds to the sound of "TH" as in thought, try practicing by placing your tonge under the two upper front teeth, and then pronounce it, and see if it sounds better to your ears.

If you want to practice your speed you need to change your speed. Read slowly at first and once you feel more comfortable make progress and then read a little faster. 

As far as your tone goes you want to change the pitch when you read something. You don't want to be monotone all the time so practice on changing your tone. Just like in singing they have deep voices and high voices. If a word is followed by an exclamation point read it with excitement. And if a word is followed by a question mark you can read it with a bit of confusion. Practice on that and what you hear should make more sense. 

You already know what you want to improve on so that's a good step in the right direction. After you master those two things it's time to move on to something else. Good luck with that!

First, let me commend you for making the effort to improve your English. You are great to seek out ways to take on the real-world speaking and listening!

You mentioned your self-awareness with pronunciation, mistakes, tones. I would give you the advice of a fellow Canadian who was determined to be the most multi-lingual speaker on the planet! When asked how he could speak more than 18 languages fluently he replied with his simple secret:  "I am not afraid to be totally embarrrassed!". In fact, he recounted how he would visit a foreign country and happily 'make a fool of himself' trying to mimic the sounds of a language, then mimic words, no matter how silly he sounded, no matter how thick his 'accent' or bad his tones. In fact, he actually used the laughter and teasing (or even facial expressions) to gauge his progress! It's how he knew which words to try and try again.

Now that we know the great secret of the world's best language speakers - you want to find the way to practice. I cannot think of a better way than to get on QQ and find all the groups with native English speakers you can. Or Skype. Or Messenger. Here a microphone and speakers are going to be worth millions to you. Embrace embarrassment! You may be the king of mistakes for a week but in a month you will be mastering English. And you might be surprised how native English speakers will actually respond quite well to the student who is boldly and happily mispronouncing and overcoming mistakes! Though they are laughing or teasing they will also jump to your mission and want to help you first!

To be honest, I don't like to recommend Hollywood movies. Far too often these films have surprisingly poor audio quality when it comes to dialogue, use far too many 'idioms' or very specific cultural references (meaningless to many of us) and often there are thick or complicated regional dialects. Or the character in the film is a very poor speaker. 

It may be helpful if you find English language films in which the characters speak in relatively proper English and at a slower pace (not jumping from planes) and you can arrange a DVD player to run the Chinese subtitles at the same time. 

Often, cartoon series like 'The Simpsons'  or 'Futurama' might be even better because the actors must enunciate clearly (since cartoons are relatively simple).

          But for listening I would much rather recommend listening to English language radio online. For example, http://www.cbc.ca/radio/ as you will not be distracted by the visual aspects (robots, explosions, beautiful people) and in this example, Canadians will tend to use a relatively slow, even, more relaxed pace of English and as professionals tend to speak clearly, enunciate and use proper (yet still common) English language. 

And of course, whenever possible, try and find events or situations where you might volunteer or work with native English speakers in your hometown. Again, remember the rule:  Embrace your mistakes! If you are speaking and come to a difficult word you can even say "oh no! I cannot say this word..." and then make a funny attempt. Most English speakers will love your honesty and engage to help you! 

             *and remember, most of us native English speakers make mistakes, mispronounce and fumble our own words sometimes! So don't 'beat yourself up' for what the best of us do anyways. 

I will give you useful tip: When there are things you don't want to hear let it go through one ear and out the next. Only take in what will help you as far as improving yourself. Do what actors do get a script and start a conversation with someone using that script. You can practice that way and hey you never know you might be able to go to Hollywood if it improves that much. Try to memorize some scripts and be natural about it. You're gonna need a partner to help you out. Pick a good one!
